Let’s not get too crazy, Rose would be considered a great player in any era. He had ten 200-hit seasons and about 5 other seasons just shy of 200 hits. Guaranteed any MLB team will take that type of production.
Base-running is atrocious. It’s like they don’t even teach it to the kids growing up anymore. It makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes.

I think they still value high on base percentage but they don’t care about singles nearly as much as they should. It’s all about slugging % HRs because those ultimately lead to more runs scored. Ideally you would want guys that can hit for power and average, like Chipper Jones, but those guys are once in a generation type players.Yeah, Rose was a great player, period. But you don't see his type - Tony Gwynn singles hitters and high on base percentage guys - in the game anymore. Or am I just not paying attention?
