2021 College World Series Game Discussion Thread: Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 (excluding Tennessee)

But how did they do in women’s bowling?
Cool-story-bro-moment....since you know, the game ain't much worth watching.

I have some familiarity with college club sports, specifically bowling. When I was a sophomore, 3 decades ago, I bowled for UT Chattanooga. We weren't great, but that's not the story.

We went to several tournaments, the biggest of which was in Atlanta. Several large schools were there, like Ga Tech, NC State, Florida At, etc. Watched a guy bowl a 300 there, but that's no the story, either.

Your team was competing against all the others (mens) but you rotated lanes after each game and it didn't matter who was paired "against" you on the same pair of lanes. We UTC men ended up on the same lanes with the FSU ladies squad. They were everything you might imagine, right down to the cute little bowling skirts. And just freaking nuclear hot, all five of them. Really good....um....form, shall we say.

But to finish the story, they could flat bowl. Mopped the everlovin lane with us. I think their worst score was in the 220s. I rolled in the 180s which was about my average. Not a one of our guys topped 200 I think, and several averaged up there. We were......distracted.

That was the best "L" I ever took.

This clown is THE reason I'm not watching the game.

Someone at VU really oughta get in his ear and tell 'im "Look... We appreciate your enthusiasm but we really want people other than VU fans to watch our games. Give it a rest, already."

I sure hope more information will come to light about NC State's removal. The whole thing leaves me with honest questions that I cannot seem to find being addressed in articles (and perhaps I am not looking in the right places - so please feel free to provide me a link). Please don't roast me, as these are questions that I just keep wondering about.

1. Why was an NC State player dismissed during the CWS?

2. How is NC State the only team to have positive testing?
  • Was it just they were the only team not fully vaccinated?
  • Did someone with their program break protocol at the CWS and NC State knew it?

3. Did the NCAA set up a "bubble" for all of the teams at their hotels or was this left up to each team to monitor?
  • I did notice on some of the broadcasts that fans were gathered in the hotel lobbies standing near the players and cheering the teams as they left the hotel lobby for the ballpark, which leads me to think there was no bubble or they had loose restrictions for players

I love it!

Many Vandy fans hate it. It’s just not something that people can do anything about.

I will add another: Why did NC State file a game roster a week earlier one player short? If State covered up a positive test, and they knowingly played a positive non-vaccinated player, this would partly explain the hard lines the NCAA kept.

Was it just they were the only team not fully vaccinated?

Four of their team tested positive despite being fully vaccinated. Question I have is: If you are fully vaccinated and test positive, does that mean you are shedding enough virus to infect another fully vaccinated individual? And can a fully vaccinated individual who tests positive shed enough virus to infect an unvaccinated person?

Another question: Why wouldn't the ncaa allow unvaccinated NCS players who tested negative play?

Was it the same player who was first on the team to test positive?

No. Jarrett was the non-vaccinated player who tested positive, and his roommate was the second. Both were not allowed to play in the first game vs Vanderbilt.

The players who were vaccinated and Tested negative could have played in the game but they didn’t get the test results back fast enough.

The whole thing is a charade. 20,000 non-vaccinated people can sit in the stands and have no issues but players 20 feet away are subject to this nonsense? Money talks and you know what walks.

Fully vaccinated individuals are far less likely to infect anyone, and are almost guaranteed to not have severe side effects if infected. It’s likely due to the fact that most positives are asymptotic and therefore you don’t cough and sneeze like you would if you had a severe infection.

it’s interesting that a state school cannot force its students to get vaccinated, while a private school can. I believe vandy is requiring all students who return to campus this fall to be fully vaccinated.

We have now found some common ground. Nearly everyone here had to have all manner of vaccines to attend 1st grade. The public schools here and most places give free flu shots for those that want them every year. I know it’s been politicized, my 78 year old dad still won’t but…

At this point if you refuse to get vaccinated, it’s because there is no science that would convince you otherwise. 300mm people have been vaccinated with virtually no adverse effects. Six weeks after vaccinations began the pandemic was over. if you are a college athlete going to the College World Series and you choose to not get vaccinated—I don’t feel sorry for you if you get disqualified due to a positive test. Even the State athletics director said he knew the rules and knows they were enforced properly.

If you aren’t going to test all the fans or make them show proof of vaccination, then you shouldn’t treat the players differently. JMO.

Then why wasn’t Vandy tested for being in close contact with NC state players?
