2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

Seeing your “five” reminded of the group that The Great One signed - Stricklen, Manning, Baugh, Cain, and the beautiful left-hander of whom Coach Summitt said was a four-five, but she, Alyssia Brewer, who transferred to UCLA, thought she was a wing. And, I think Candace might have stayed with them for their freshman season, had it not been Olympic Year. Oh well.

I love the Art, the Science, and the Math of Recruiting. And, I should add, the Logistics. For instance, if we’re fortunate enough to sign (or, for now gain the commitment of) Karoline Striplin, how could this affect Sara Puckett? They’re similar, and I’d love to have them both. Could they co-commute?
Gutsy move by Miss Karoline.

If we get Striplin how does that affect Pucket ? Similar players ?

They both play on the same AAU team ! Of course AAU is a different type of game but I don’t see why not ? In today’s game .... there is not so much of positional like the old 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, positions..... just saying 🤔

Any players under 6ft tall we might want to look for, ie slashers or potential PG's? Apologies if I've missed anyone already mentioned.

If we get Striplin i don`t think we get Pucket.

Speaking of potential point guards, an ESPN article stated that Olivia Miles had narrowed her list of schools to six: Connecticut, Princeton, Stanford, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Oregon.

She has a player I previously had on my initial list.

I don’t know one way or the other ! However, these kids play AAU together for a reason ..... Parents travel with other parents and share responsibilities of these kids ...., they know each other and if they will want to play college ball together? They also know which kid holds offers from which schools . That being said : Unless we hear from a parent who’s kid plays on the team ! It is a wait and see ? JMO

Olivia from New Jersey ( A pg we could use ) would want to stay up North unless she can get into Stanford or Oregon ? JMO

AND: if you were the coach of the Lady Vols and interest was increasing on attending Tennessee on a basketball scholarship what conversations/social media interaction etc do you have with High school seniors in February? With the college season far from over and the LVs with the opportunity to be have an impact season, (or not) which will have an impact for some who are considering the LVs. Some of, probably most, of the players on the LV list are going to take multiple trips, many in the Fall.

I remember 2009 recruiting one opening: Taber Spani and another player (Bone ?) as option for the last scholarship. She was not ready to commit; later transferred back to Texas.

I think Sara is a wing and Karoline is a 4. Sara can play the 4, but mainly plays wing. If Karoline commits I don’t think that would deter Sara from coming if she really wants to come

Thank you, River, and I think you’re right that there is enough exclusivity to their games/recruitments, which is why I added the (wishful) “co-commute” tidbit. And, in an earlier post I referred to Puckett (and Breanne Salenbien) as more outside-in, whereas Karoline is more inside-out.
Hey, I’m not asking for much, as long as we get two of the three mentioned; plus Teonni, and Verhulst/Rivers, and my #1, Wolfenbarger. Oh, and feel free to add updates, like unofficials from Michigan, North Carolina, Arkansas. Canada! 🇨🇦

At this moment I just want to get Striplin that may or may not happen. We have some people guessing on twitter but no one knows she has really kept her choice quiet. Striplin is the ideal player for us right now as were going to have to find dome post players and she is one that can play inside as well as hit the three outside. We don't have a post player that can do that now. Also KK and McCoy will be gone only leaving Key and Saunders.

We all know that player rankings are not as important as coach evaluation for the program, but Puckett is not even listed in the ESPN top 60, but is rated fairly high in the Prospect nation. I guess maybe AAU exposure has a lot to do with the ratings?

ESPN is a little funny with there rankings at one point Teonni was not in super 60 and i said what is this a joke.

When it comes to wing prospects for this class we have a lot of options. Puckett, Key, Verhulst, and numerous others. I think were looking at one or two max for those positions in that class. I think we need two post. Stripling can play inside but also hit shots all over the offensive court. We also need a point guard. My hope is that we have it all together for the signing period.

I don't think ESPN puts much into WBB rankings until senior year.

Very true it’s why there are only 60 players on the junior list.. and an abysmal 25 on the sophomore (which is primarily based on USA invitations/ which misses many top recruits)... and freshman only get on a watchlist that is based on invitation system also

I love Massengale, smart guard
I like her too, but when she is a senior, it would be nice to have an elite point freshman as a backup. Of course Horston could end up playing point, but still need another point from the class of 2021.

Hopefully this gets the ball rolling player like Teonni Key, Saniya Rivers, Sarah Puckett, and several others we are recruiting make their decisions known. I hear the class will be four players so hopefully we got some big names coming to join Miss Striplin.

Very different Puckett is a perimeter player probably one of the best shooters in the class. Probably be a three in college.

I wonder if we have a chance of landing any transfers after this year? I wouldn’t be surprised if we picked up one, maybe 2 if we are lucky. Hard to predict but I could see it happening, especially if we have a good year. Thoughts anyone??
