When CJH said that UT needs to lock down the state, it can't be stated enough for the 2022 class. TN has 11 prospects in this class that rank in the top 300 of 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. In 2021, it had just six in the top 250. In the 2020 class, the state had just six prospects in the top 300. In 2019, it had eight. TN hasn’t had this many big-time prospects in a single class since 2017 with Trey Smith, Jacoby Stevens and Tee Higgins being 3 of the top 20 prospects. However that class had just nine prospects in the top 300. Who are the top 2022 targets?

-Walter Nolen, defensive tackle
-Ty Simpson, quarterback
-Jordan James, running back
-Keaten Wade, outside linebacker
-Fisher Anderson, offensive tackle
-Taylor Groves, receiver (Michigan verbal 2/9/2021)
-Barion Brown, athlete
-Kody Jones, athlete (Michigan verbal 2/9/2021)
-Dallan Hayden, running back (son of Aaron Hayden)
-Isaiah Horton, receiver
-Kaden Martin, quarterback (son of Tee Martin)

I would be pleasantly surprised if we got 7 of these guys. Our staff is behind on their recruitment and most of them have offers from way better programs than ours. We will probably end up getting the majority of our class from the next tier down and have to build up the program from there. I’m hoping I’m wrong.

no doubt. heard the same thing on one of the shows. usually the new staff shows up and there's a shell of previous staffs there for transitional information. We cleaned house and there's no one to connect the dots. We are historically behind. Doesn't mean they can't catch up, but I think it would be a MAJOR win if we picked up half of them. You know Clemson, UGA, Bama, Ohio St, are all over our top 5.

Most are committed or leaning elsewhere, but there is a lot of time and football between now and next years signing day. Some wins and exciting offensive football and things will work out fine.
perennial top recruiting budget. we'll be fine and if not, Hypeful will need to live up to $5 per.

Not to mention prospect of early playing time. A decent record could make UT very attractive.

I don't see Tee's son coming to Tennessee. I very well may be wrong, be great if I am. The biggest hurdle for signing these recruits, IMO, is what happens with the investigation. If Tennessee gets hammered, don't see much hope for signing any of them, but if it's probation, and loss of a few scholarships, and bowl ban for a couple of years, maybe not so bleak.

Again, bowls are not nearly as attractive to these kids unless they are bowls in the playoffs. Going to a bowl just to go to another game does not excite many of these kids. I think it's mainly because there are so many bowls. Who wants to go bowling just to play in mostly bad weather, few fans and ho hum stuff before the game.

I agree. There are now so many bowls that the glamour of playing in a bowl game isn't what it used to be. When there were only a handful of bowl games, the players had more incentive to make to one of them. I would like to see the playoffs expanded to 10-12 teams. I'm sure some genius could come up with a format to make it work.

Considering that this staff hasn't been here, or actually still isn't here, Its really going to be a HUGE UPHILL battle to get a handful of these guys. I know some are going to hate this but the 2022 Class will/could be considered year Zero, (and I hate that term too) as our staff will be several months/years behind other power schools. Plus the uncertainty of NCAA makes this a tough class to sign. Just my opinion and I hope Im pleasantly surprised and proven wrong.

Judge it in December/Feb. Not exactly an understatement, or new info, on the quality of this class and the challenge this staff has in regards to it.

Resisting the urge to call the staff failures for not signing some of these guys will be difficult for some of you reading this thread. Try anyway...

I thought Tee's son was going baseball?
Viewed as a higher prospect in baseball. May depend on where he is drafted in the ML draft.

Unrelated note: Hope the RF doesn't become cluttered with random subjects like the FF forum. Seems this subject and others should be in the general football thread.

Most of the top Tennessee players have been going elsewhere lately.I have no new reasoUT old uniforms.jpgn for this group to change the trend.I hope so but believe it when I see it.Loyalty isn't like it once was for Tennessee HS kids!

Tennessee hasnt been a dominant brand in really 20 years now, 2001.

Botch was able to tap into an uber close in state clas full of legacy players.

I hope a lot of that depends on who is on our staff. We may get some assistants these young men have already heard from or about. Here's hoping you're pleasantly surprised. I got hopes.

2) Simpson (6'2 190 QB)
3) Kaydin Pope (6'1 172 WR)
4) Hayden (5'11 195 RB)
5) J James (5'10 205 RB)
6) K Jones (6'0 190 ATH mich commit)
7) K Wade (6'4 220 OLB)
8) K Paul (6'1 200 ATH)
9) J Hood (6'8 350 OL)
10) A Brown (6'2 195 DB)

All of these guys need to wear Big Orange come Feb 2022.
This is based on me looking at their tapes.
There are other guy in-state too that are really good. (Destin Wade, Jaylen Lewis, Isiah Horton, and Barion Brown that all are SEC athletes. Brown is really good, and could make my top 10 easily.
