I am not going to be a ridiculous Rose colored glasses Volunteers so I’ll say undeniably the Gamecocks eliminated the number 5 Volunteers from competing for the 4 teams playoffs because they steamrolled the Volunteers 63-38 in a game that the Volunteers weren’t able to get tied or take the lead even after repeated successful attempts to reduce the lead to 4 points.
Undeniably the Gamecocks outplayed the Volunteers because their defense defended when needed, also continued to score when needed, and score more touchdowns making a valiant 2nd half comeback very unlikely.

The Volunteers defeated a great number 3 Alabama in a high scoring thriller.
They steamrolled a playing great LSU Tigers team in Tiger Stadium.
They defeated a rebuilding good Gators team because the defense defended when needed most.
They steamrolled a ranked Kentucky Wildcats, and held them to 6 points.
They outplayed a good Panthers team in Pittsburgh in a game realistically they could have lost.

For 10 weeks they had a realistic chance of making the College Football 4 teams Playoffs.
11 if you count the bye week since the Volunteers were undefeated before their bye week.

They have scored more than 30 points in 10 of 11 games.
Vanderbilt is playing great for 2 weeks, however it’s still achievable for Tennessee to defeat an exciting good Vanderbilt in most likely a close game.
Also it’s achievable for the Volunteers to score over 30 points in that game vs a confident playing great Vanderbilt team.

2016... you would think some fans have humility.

If the Banks, Hooker, Milton fight story is correct, we have some major issues right now as a program.
We have issues cause a couple college kids got in a little scrap? Stfu

Locker room issues are REAL issues. Look what happened to Florida in 2020. They went from winning SEC Easts to Dan Mullen quiting.

I hope you guys are right but to say Vandy is a walk in the park isn't true anymore.

If they lose to Vandy and then the bowl game to finish 9-4, it's a step forward but the perception and feel will be very, very negative. You could only describe it as a collapse. One would have to think the negativity would be at a fever pitch and that can and does have an impact on recruiting. I said it in another thread that Vandy is critical. We simply cannot afford to let the loss to uscjr lead to another loss. An 11-2 record looks incredible. A 9-4 finish...not so much. We need momentum back for recruiting and the off season. That can begin or end with Vandy. Huge game for this program Saturday. With Hooker likely out and the miserable weather to deal with, I'll be very interested to see what Heupel and Co. can come up with.

I'm agreeing that this was a great season...no question. The problem I, and MANY others have is it should have been BETTER. No excuse for losing and losing like that to uscjr

I utterly agree it was a complete embarrassment how Tennessee lost to an underdog South Carolina team that looked like the Chip Kelly Ducks elite offense teams.

The Volunteers failed to remain realistically alive to compete for the 4 teams Playoffs after the Gamecocks demolished the Volunteers 63-48.

It could have been a lot greater...now it's a very good season ...maybe a little great....but not quite as great as it was before kickoff on Saturday.

😉

It dropped to very good after that bush league I’ll never regret never watching the highlights of that abysmal performance by the 5th ranked Volunteers vs an unranked Gamecocks team that looked like the great Auburn Tigers that won a National Championship vs the Oregon Ducks.
That is my impersonation of Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation if Clark was a Volunteers football fan that saw that abysmal performance by the 5th ranked Volunteers vs the unranked Gamecocks.

My Huskies did lose to the terrible unranked Sun Devils on the road except that is less frustrating because the Huskies competed, and had a realistic chance of winning that game in the 4th Quarter.
The Volunteers were playing to score garbage points in the 4th Quarter vs the unranked Gamecocks.

The Volunteers will have to finish this season with Milton since Hooker is out for the season.

Not surprising at all because of seeing the injury he got vs the Gamecocks wasn’t a minor injury.

Vanderbilt is a good team playing great so Tennessee will need a great performance on the road to defeat a good Vanderbilt team.

agree......IF we curbstomp Candy.

That’s become the high climb because Tennessee is playing an entertaining playing great Vanderbilt team.

I’m very happy that the loyal Vanderbilt football fans are seeing fruitful results on the football field.

To say any football game in this league is a walk in the park would be a mistake.

Certain Ducks fans learned that the hard way when the Ducks lost to a great resilient Huskies team in Oregon.

Also Ohio State didn’t easily defeat a rebuilding Notre Dame team that is playing great after the normal growing pains in the Freeman era.
I expected that Ohio State was going to demolish a rebuilding Notre Dame team which didn’t happen.

I’m stunned Austin Peary got shutout by Alabama because while most likely Alabama was going to win , it’s embarrassing a 7-3 Austin Peary team failed to score points vs a great Alabama team.
An awful Colorado team played better only because they avoided a shutout Vs the UW Huskies in that 54-7 defeat.

The Volunteers shut out the Commodores 56-0 in Vanderbilt with Milton looking like Tee the Marvel Martin.

What an impressive failure for a Vanderbilt team that needed to win to become bowl eligible.
Congratulations Commodores on giving their loyal Commodores Fans the greatest embarrassment since they did have momentum because played great coming back to defeat Kentucky, and they outplayed Florida in a high scoring game.

The 2022 Vanderbilt football team can’t use the excuse they’re a awful team, or bad team for this abomination vs their main rival the UT Volunteers.

I think we need to win the bowl game.

2003 looked like a really great season until we lost bowl game to Clemson. 2006 was also like that until we lost bowl game to Penn State. Winning the bowl game would make up for the collapse against South Carolina.
