I am not going to be a ridiculous Rose colored glasses Volunteers so I’ll say undeniably the Gamecocks eliminated the number 5 Volunteers from competing for the 4 teams playoffs because they steamrolled the Volunteers 63-38 in a game that the Volunteers weren’t able to get tied or take the lead even after repeated successful attempts to reduce the lead to 4 points.
Undeniably the Gamecocks outplayed the Volunteers because their defense defended when needed, also continued to score when needed, and score more touchdowns making a valiant 2nd half comeback very unlikely.
The Volunteers defeated a great number 3 Alabama in a high scoring thriller.
They steamrolled a playing great LSU Tigers team in Tiger Stadium.
They defeated a rebuilding good Gators team because the defense defended when needed most.
They steamrolled a ranked Kentucky Wildcats, and held them to 6 points.
They outplayed a good Panthers team in Pittsburgh in a game realistically they could have lost.
For 10 weeks they had a realistic chance of making the College Football 4 teams Playoffs.
11 if you count the bye week since the Volunteers were undefeated before their bye week.
They have scored more than 30 points in 10 of 11 games.
Vanderbilt is playing great for 2 weeks, however it’s still achievable for Tennessee to defeat an exciting good Vanderbilt in most likely a close game.
Also it’s achievable for the Volunteers to score over 30 points in that game vs a confident playing great Vanderbilt team.
