2022 Recruits

Toinne was promised nothing from UNC no playing time also had a nice chat with a 2023 recruit i post about some time back out of the state of NC and on her visits to other schools she said no coaches have promised her playing time. So i think you can shelve that, Now for the other perks you will need to list them or put the proof on the table ? And i agree coaches shouldn't make promises they can't keep.
I think you mean Teonni and she picked Carolina because close to home and she liked UNC best home state school. Yet your going to come here and say coaches don't promise recruits anything one or two examples are not a conclusion. So no it is happening on a large scale and could definitely be a factor with a lot of recruits not all. The Nega Vols act like Tennessee hasn't recruited anybody yet we had a class ranked in the top ten and another ranked player this season. Recruiting is just fine for a third year coach, Some don't have to like it that is fine just glad the people that matter AD and others are happy with what is happening in women's basketball.

Totally disagree! Former recruiting coordinator didn’t do her job, so when Sam and Joy came in, they had a lot of ground to make up. To get two top 25 kids on campus and to make their top 4 as late as they were offered speaks volumes about what Sam Williams brings to the table. You have to develop relationships with these kids and their parents. I think 2023 and 2024 will be a different story. Ashlynn Shade has visited twice in 4 months on her own dime. Kellie doesn’t play the smoke and mirrors game like a lot of these coaches do and doesn’t promise them things she can’t deliver.
We will agree to disagree..Lady Vols should sell their self!

I don't think that coaches like Geno, Kim, Dawn, etc. have to make promises they can't keep to get recruits on board. SC and Uconn this season are both loaded with All Americans up and down their starting lineup and bench. I doubt someone like Caroline Ducherme or Bree Hall were promised anything, other than the opportunity to compete for minutes...but they were willing to take on the challenge. I would guess that Pat was much the same way during her recruiting cycles. Coaches that are known to make empty promises will have it catch up to them quickly, because I'm sure word will get around that they aren't trustworthy. The flip side is when you have a school like Miami that really can promise playing time because they don't have a deep recruiting pipeline, and that's going to resonate with a player who wants to start right away.
We'll see how much bench time the odd players out enjoy in next years portal.
That is a poor example naming all the established coaches that have been around for decade of more. If your going to judge recruiting on them then you need to give Kellie seven more seasons. Geno, Dawn, Kim all took a while to establish their recruiting success. We all know Maya Moore got a lot of things. I'm sure they don't have to do that now with name recognition. Pat also took a while to establish recruiting success. Were on the right track based on what others have done in their first three seasons JMO anyone that has a different opinion is fine with me I just move forward with what I think is happening they can move forward with their agenda.

I see your concern but I also disagree! What is alarming is the amount of kids constantly ending up in the transfer portal because coaches have made promises they knew they couldn't keep. Kellie has done a great job fixing a lot of errors from the Holly era and is building the team the way it should be done. She isn't going to cater to AAU coaches, high school coaches, parents and other factors that want to have a say in who she brings in and who she doesn't. Whether these are viewed as excuses or not, I could care less, I just know that its a lot that goes on behind the scenes in recruiting Kellie will have no part in, just like Pat wouldn't have a part in. It's all about integrity. The fact that we even got a visit from Cooper and Oldacre is amazing. Neither player was on our radar but became interested in what we had to offer. Justine is our only verbal commit now (and I get it Lacy was the one who initially put things in place but with Lacy gone Justine is still committed) and I want more players like her. More players like our 2021 class and even our 2020 class. Those young ladies committed to the our program and has never wavered and those who probably wasn't the right fit are no longer here (Destiny Salary).

Kellie has a huge mountain to climb and a lot of damage to repair from Holly's time as Head Coach and I believe she is taking all the right steps to do so. The transfer portal has been huge for 3 of the last 4 NCAA champions! SC doesn't win a Championship without Alicia Gray and Kaela Davis, ND doesn't win a championship with Jessica Shepard, Baylor doesn't win a championship without Chloe Jackson! That's 4 of the right pieces entering the portal at the right time and coaches capitalizing on it to help them win.

Even with us just adding Justine to this class (if we miss out on Cooper), we would still have 11 next year (and it could be 12 if Walker decides to take the Covid year) you can add two key pieces in the portal and then add a great 2023 class (one where our staff has really been able to get in early on) and you're even better than you were. Many of us have said 2023 would be the year to look toward and I wont be alarmed until at least the 2024 class
The transfer portal is evil.

Have to agree...something is not right in Knoxville ..too many swings and misses. Takes more than a pool party at Kellie's house to close the deal . The assistant coaches have to be frustrated!! This is how they are graded .
Nothing wrong here. Our new assistant coaches just got here, and for here late in the process. Chill.

Each kid is different in recruiting. Some want to wear the jersey, some want to play early, some want to only be offered a spot and compete at an elite program. Some kids like that they can go to a smaller program and maybe be the catalyst to turn it around. No rhyme or reason for any of it.

We used to say that about football until we had some bad coaches that took all the steam out and now were trying to start over and going to take the new coach at least three seasons to get to a better situation. Even Rick Barnes took a few years to get established at Tennessee and he was already known as an elite coach at Texas. A program only sells its self if their is a continuity of success and recognition and we lost a lot of that during the Holly reign. Also a lot of bad culture set in during that time as well. Were coming back some don't care to believe and that is fine everybody has a right to their opinion. There will come a time when Coach Harper will need to to up everything about the program that will be demanded, but that is not right now. She is exactly where most thought she would be in a rebuild and we'll see if she can move forward from where she has brought us already.

Way too much stress going on here....

We all knew it would break loose if a recruit decided against Tennessee. Coaches are working plenty hard to get the top recruits and although it doesn't look to some like that is being successful they are doing better than most think in building for the future. It will all come to be known in a class in the next couple years. Since the players we've already recruited seem to be ignored by a few people.

Exactly and she may be a little ahead. This is year 3. Recruiting in D1 Women's basketball has typically been a 4 year marathon. But if you follow recruiting you are seeing teams tracking younger and younger players. Top teams who used to usually offer very late in the process are now having to offer 2 and 3 years out.

The Nega Vols act really?. I call it like i see it it. I refuse to put a spin on anything. Also i never said there was an issue with Kellie recruiting so go back and check all my post.

I didn't call any specific person a nega vol so why you calling yourself one? I never called you one. If you think were not recruiting well no problem that is your opinion. I think were doing fine for a third year coach and I refuse to listen to anything different that is my choice.

You can spin it how you want, but we have got turned down by so many players. It’s alarming.

Kellie does many things well as a coach, but she sucks at recruiting at this level. The sad thing is, we knew this when she was hired...

Kim Mulkey didn’t need to be at LSU for 3 years to set a standard and get recruits. The difference is she is a prominent coach who players know will win. Say what you want and it’s just my opinion as well, but Kellie was a no name coach to most players who aren’t UT fans. She played at UT in the late 90s and these players were not alive then. She coached at Western Carolina, NC State and Missouri State. She wasn’t exactly a hot name when we hired her. She made a run in the NCAA tournament. Too me, recruiting has been slow because it is much easier to negative recruit against us because she doesn’t have a track record of winning at the biggest level. She may get it together and win big here, but you cannot win championships without great players. She is not getting great players right now. Pat won most her Nattys with a star…Gordon, Holdsclaw, Cathcings, Candace and there more, but you have to have an alpha and those players, in my opinion, don’t trust their careers to be developed by someone they barely know of. As Tennessee fans, we may think everyone knows who Kellie Jolly is…not 18 year old kids of this generation. Unfortunately, we will just have to hope she wins enough at some point to create some buzz. To be honest, Kara Lawson had more name recognition and got a ton of players in the portal. I think Kara will do well at Duke and we will regret we didn’t look at her harder. Again, just my opinion, but I do not see greatness on the horizon in year 3. Sorry if that makes me a NegaVol for not following the company line that we just need to wait one more year to really get some recruits.

We all know who we consider the great recruiters today right? The main three would be Geno, Dawn, and Kim and there are some others, but I will use these three. Geno first three seasons 12 and 15, 14 and 13, 17 and 11, he then went 24 and 6, 25 and 6, 29 and 5, then a downturn 23 and 11, 18 and 11. then the program took off. There for about four season doesn't look like he was recruiting very well. Then in the next four it got better, and after that elite. Dawn 10 and 18, 14 and 15, 18 and 15, 25 and 10, 25 and 8 first five season. She didn't do to well for three seasons then it got better. She too have a downturn for a couple of season now her program is elite. Kim did well outside of conference play but her first four seasons in conference went 39 and 27. She had a couple more average seasons in conference then she turned it around from there and became an elite program. Point is you got to give a little time to turn things around were in year three and were doing fine.

It doesn't take being at a school for 10 seasons for a head coach to be a successful recruiter.

Who Kim get at LSU only one I see is the player that she had recruited for three years at Baylor. No one else is on board this season. She inherited the recruits that LSU had already signed. So no she hasn't done anything in year one at LSU and expect she will do her usual portal probing as that is where she was getting a lot of her players even at Baylor.
