2022 would destroy 2016. Better WR core, better O-line, better QB, better system on both sides of the ball, and Huepel would coach laps around Butch

2016 team was certainly more talented. Now all these players weren't what they developed into at that point, but it has Malone, Jennings, John Kelly, Kamara, Hurd, Callaway, Croom, Ethan Wolf, Preston Williams, and Josh Smith. All of those guys except Smith (and he was even on a practice squad) were in the NFL. Also had Tyler Byrd, Brandon Johnson, and Jakob Johnson (also in the NFL) who were pretty decent as well.

That defense was also loaded with talent, like at least 12 that have been in the NFL, plus TK who was pretty good in college but was injured.

Add just half of those guys to this roster and were probably favored against Bama right now. We're really good right now, and a lot of that has to do with coaching and Hendon Hooker.

It’s 2022 and it’s not particularly close. The 2016 team had a great start, but they couldn’t dominate teams the way the ‘22 squad has already. In 16, we squeaked out wins vs App State and Ohio. We needed a Hail Mary to take down UGA. The 2nd half vs Florida was an incredible performance, I’ll give them that.

They lost to a bad SC team and got boatraced by Vandy. Could the ‘16 team beat the ‘22 team? It’s certainly possible, but that team had horrible coaching and lacked consistency so you can’t count on them to do anything with certainty.

Heupel’s squad bests them 8/10 times.
