2023 Expectations

My expectations are simple.

September 18 is going to resemble the Amityville Horror for our friends from the palmetto state.

I’m going to enjoy every football Saturday as if it’s my last one on earth. The older I get, the more I appreciate them.

I think 9-3 would be a good year given the talent difference between us and the top teams. Depth didn’t kill us last year, can’t expect that again.
I think 9-3 with our roster is overachieving and I would hope people would be pretty happy with that- they won’t be, of course.

Actually, screw all of that. Vols by Siddy twelve times in a row.

What should we expect in the 2023 season? What are your expectations? I’m predicting a 9-3 season and 5-3 in the SEC we win our bowl game to finish with 10 wins. Back to back seasons of 10 plus wins for the first time since 2003-2004 seasons would be really big and show people that we are back and here to stay relevant and a top 10 team yearly. I think we win the SEC in 2024 and make the playoff

Recruiting has to improve quite a bit to win the East. Not near close enough to Georgia in talent to over take them anytime soon. I could easily see Nico and mates having same outcomes with Georgia during his time that Peyton had with Florida during his time. Unless the recruiting gets to top level soon, like 2024 needs to be better than Georgia's and that continue for a few years. Unless Georgia;s stocking of talent falls off dramatically.

I believe Joe Milton will win the Heisman and lead the team to an undefeated or one loss season. Then he will go number one in the NFL draft! And I'm usually right!

I had a dream last night we were beating Bama 28-7 late in the 3rd quarter of the game.

Yep. I’m going into every game thinking we’re gonna win that one. Are we going to win em all? Odds are against us but there isn’t one game I’m writing a L beside.

I think the defense takes a big step forward and the offense takes a small step back. Looking at 9-3 or 10-2, though leaning towards 10-2. Getting Georgia, USCe, and A&M at home is huge. Florida looks like they'll be pretty bad but it is at Florida. Bama at Bama is very tough. If you can go 3-2 in those 5 games, then 10-2 is essentially a lock. I don't see Kentucky or Missouri making up 40 points a piece even at their place. Vandy is Vandy, Virginia probably won't be that much better in a pseudo home game.

Well I was seriously thinking our season would come down to the Georgia game. Two undefeated teams suiting up against each other in our backyard, rain or not with our fans. If we win that game we're off and running to the SECCG and a playoff spot. I was feeling pretty confident about this when I saw a post on Twitter that pretty much seals a 3-Peat for Georgia. Maybe 2024 will be our year? Good grief.............and if this isn't an omen, the 2024 Natty is in ATLANTA!!!!

I think we beat Florida, South Carolina, Mizzou , Kentucky, and Vandy and lose to A&M, Bama and Georgia in SEC play and we beat Virginia.
The Tx A&M game is in our house. A&M plays Alabama the week before they play us. Tennessee has a bye week the week prior to Texas A&M game.

So some additional thought process may be warranted.

What's more, we have a pretty favorable/manageable schedule.

I wouldn’t count aTM out. They will be loaded with talent - loaded and veteran - all those recruits will have had another year in weight room, and I do not trust that they will suck again, at all. They are immensely more talented than we are.
Now, if Milton can be like Hooker in terms of scoring forty points a game, then bring ‘em on.

I would not count them as a loss either. Too early to tell but in predicting next years outcome at this point it is a .5 win. I see it as a split in the W/L column with us having an edge due to the home field, the bye week, and Tx A&M scheduled game with Alabama the week before our game.

Our schedule is favorable next year for us but the away games should be a factor as well as the coaching changes and vs away. As much as Fl is a dumpster fire it is tough to play in the swamp. So it is another game I call a split game.

I guess I interpreted in posts that someone had us losing to them and I don't see it that way.

I think we take a step back from a talent perspective but I think with our schedule a 9 win season is possible. I do think that something no one is talking about to keep an eye on is offensive line play. It's clear that Wright exceeded expectations and you can't discount Carvin's experience. I'll be curious to see how next year's o-line will do without them because I haven't been too impressed with our o-line recruiting in the past few years.
The o-line is my big concern also. Good post.

No it doesn't.
We're not going to out recruit them more than likely.
Still need to beat them regardless.

We have to do what we do BETTER, than what they do.

I think it's nearly impossible to even guess. I wouldn't be totally shocked by 8 wins with everyone we lost this year, but I also see the path to 11 wins and a possible playoff spot as well. I think it hangs more on the defense than the offense. If we end up with a top 50 or possibly a top 30 defense next year, it wouldn't matter as much if our offense takes a step back. A step back from a historically good offense is still a top tier offense.

there could be a time when we could beat them but we are not going to consistently compete with them without getting better talent. There is always one games where you win one you shouldn't due to talent differences. Bama might have been one of those games. Future will tell since they far out talent Tennessee. See how things go next few years.

Doing things better than them most likely will require improvement in talent on the UT roster.

Agreed. The stars aligned for us in that game. Not saying we can't do it again, but like you said, we'll have to wait and see. Replacing Hooker and Hyatt won't be as simple as plug and play with Milton and White. I'm seeing 8 wins. Hope for 9 and a solid bowl game. A win there and we've got back to back 10 win seasons which would be an incredible accomplishment.
