2023 Recruiting

She visited UCONN then someone in the know took her off the list. I hope it is not what it looks like.

Honestly…and this is a stretch…but it almost seems like if recruits take an interest in UCONN we are pulling back. Like….

“If you wanna play there, fine, but you won’t be playing here.” Posting pics in a UCONN hoodie isn’t going to make coaches at Tennessee feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I think Kellie is very pointedly not recruiting against UCONN. My great grandmother always said, “never roll in the sh!t with a pig, because you’ll both get dirty. But he’ll enjoy it!”

Geno can have his mud hole and Kellie will find players that fit her system and who want to win.

I've seen this posted before. I'm not saying you are wrong - I just never see any specifics. What kinds of things are they telling recruits about us?
What if someone is disparaging the program.the LV coaches get a say to refute the things other coaches are saying when they meet a recruit and I trust the kids are smart enough to accept the honesty of our coaches so if they don't come the reason is they don't want to come.no one can tell me Horston didn't hear backlash against us or Pissott didn't hear backlash or even the freshmen class but they chose TN so coaches putting the program down isn't gonna keep no recruit from committing

I wouldn't call it a downward trajectory but you have to admit over the last 5 years UConn has underperformed. Each year with the exception of maybe last year Uconn is the most talented team on paper. Yet lost to teams like AZ and Mississippi State. Twice to ND who's roster wasn't as talented on paper. In 2018 Uconn had 3 players who were #1 in their class plus Collier and Odada. In 2019 Uconn had 4 players who were #1 in their class (Westbrook transfer I do think this was the year she sat) plus Griffin and Odada. In 2020 you not only had 3 #1s but Uconn had the College POY Bueckers plus Griffin, Edwards Mclean Muhl and Makurat. In 2021 (still TBD) Uconn has 4 #1s ,the College POY from last year plus the #1 recruit and generational talent the #5 recruit plus Odada Edwards Muhl etc...

In 2021 Uconn had the #2 recruiting class including the #1 player someone most consider a generational talent in AZZI, In 2020 Uconn had the #2 recruiting class including the #1 player someone most consider a generational talent. In 2019 you had your worse class with only one player Griffin but got Westbrook. In 2018 Uconn had the #2 class and the #1 recruit again. In 2017 you had the #2 class with the #1 recruit.

Uconn is expected to win their conference it's weak no team in their conference can even compare talent wise. So Sure they rack up the wins. Seeing they haven't won a title since 2016 and with the talent mentioned above lose to way less talented teams in the tourney. I'd say they certainly are NOT on an upward trajectory since their last championship...... Even without Paige the team is better than 99% of the team on paper.. I wouldn't be shocked if Bueckers doesn't get a championship. I don't see them winning this year but I wouldn't bet against it. Next year SC junior's will be Seniors and last years recruiting class with Johnson & Rivers and Cardosa transfer etc may end up being better than Uconns.
Facts are good. And your opinions are well stated. Can’t argue with your post at all.

I’m glad you agree that they aren’t in a downward trajectory. That is all I was sayingz

Rick ….. don’t bother ! This is a Darth deciple or Ivy has reincarnated herself without her Harvard degrees ! Let it argue with themselves so they don’t have anyone posting a reply to them ! As Rambo would say : “ Let it go .”
Oh dear heavens! That’s it. Pretty soon you’ll have me in a corner all balled up and whimpering.
I just had visualizations of convoluted, ruggy, new dog, ivy, and my mind is whirling thinking of others ucon trolls who loved to come on VN and show themselves for what they are.
You should be more sensitive to the Vol posters on this site and not bring back such nauseating memories.
I had not thought of that bunch in forever….now😮😮🤭😬😡.
Sigh, I guess anyone can have a bad post once in a while and I’m sure you did not mean to inflict trauma on any of us.😉 @T_Vol376 @gule @Rickster , someone may have to hold my hand….

The fact his teams are underperforming may lead to more underperforming. This is just my take but Ive followed Uconn for a long time cause I love Women's Bball. I am a Vol fan though. It seems to me Geno is a bit lost right now.. His teams having underperformed has him struggling. I think you can see it his interviews and on court. He has always put a great product and a TEAM on the floor. The last few years I feel like he's just recruiting the best players he can get but they don't all fit his program. This has led to recruiting over players whether fans want to see it or not. there have been more and more transfers over the last few years. It's all guesswork like anyone else but if he doesn't get back to doing what he did so well prior to this drought he may very well head downward.

Coaches are unfairly disparaging our program and have been for years. Whether people want to believe it or not. And I'll leave it at that, anything I say on here I stand behind and don't seek validation from anyone. I'm just glad Kellie refuses to stoop to the level many of these programs are because integrity goes a very long way.

At the end of the day, I want who wants to be a Lady Vol and I trust Kellie and her staff to develop her players and coach the team to get it done like they are showing they can.

Tennessee isn't for everybody.

I am sure Tennesse is not the only program that is talked about negatively during the recruiting process if what you are saying is true. You have to stop using that as a crutch when players decide to go somewhere else.

Eh, I strongly, strongly doubt that TN or really almost any coach would take the "if you wanna play there, fine but you wan't be playing here" tone with a recruit these days, especially with the portal being a thing now.

In Shade's case, it's very probable they offered her, she accepted, notified the coaches, and here we are. It would be nice to think that this is somehow all part of a plan Tennessee enacts, since that makes us feel like Tennessee is in control and this was a desired outcome, but the likely reality is that Tennessee either couldn't or wouldn't match their offer, whatever it was, and here we are.

That’s a hasty generalization, but even so those other programs have their own message boards with their own URLs.

I can see both what you and he are saying. Getting kids to sign on the dotted line is the end result but as a fan when you hear some of the stuff that's being said it is bothersome.

Wishing Ashlynn a healthy career and as a group looking forward to the continued growth and development of Kellies players and team chemistry. This may be a bummer but i'm enjoying Kellie coach up so called less when those that have more are struggling lol

We got your back !

Frankly, we are going to experience this every time someone from the recruiting list goes elsewhere.

Some want it to be a sign of failure, some want to sit back and point it out repeatedly relishing life while others understand that some young players are impressed by things other than basketball. There is a lot of beliefs in between.

I guess I am in the camp of not winning enough but it could, and most likely is, multiple things, some of which are outside what Kellie can control. Overcoming what these kids know from as far back as basketball interested them is tough. What happened to Tennessee and all the talk about it is what these kids know now. That has to change but it also takes time. Competing and winning will be the catalyst. Kellie is doing that now. Sustainment is critical.

I would hate that NIL discussions might impact recruiting. I guess it's so inevitable that some entities are probably well on the way to exploiting it. If anything kills Lady Vol recruiting, it could be financial guarantees because Kellie is going to follow the rules. I don't expect everyone to do the same. What happens when the fathers of elite players start requiring financial compensation (Oops, I mean NIL guarantees) for their daughter to play?

Regardless, Kellie will get her players, develop them, coach them up and win with them. I believe this is inevitable. Her detractors will either disappear or be convinced she was the right hire.
