If the staff is really good at evaluating talent and projecting development and future success... meaning that Telander, Smith, Lang, et al are actually 4* talents with 3* ratings then this type of class is EXACTLY where this program wants to be. A program that wins on game day regardless of what it looks like on NSD.
You can win with 3 Stars, all 3 Stars.

You could. But the more a program wins or teams win recruiting certain areas... the more the recruiting sites award 4/5* ratings to those players. The recruiting rankings are a trailing indicator.

A leading indicator would be the idea that they're out there finding most of the best players in the country and coaches followed up by recruiting them. A trailing indicator means that they recognize and try to comparatively score the quality of the players being recruited by major programs.
 
A promotion at work usually means more actual compensation coming your way...

A promotion in star ranking means jackshit...


Some of you all would take Kevin Dyson over Randy Moss if Dyson were a 5 star and Moss a 3 star...
