2023 Transfer Portal - General NCAA Thread

Agreed. I see Dante as more of a like-for-like replacement for Plavsic, but with the production capability of Nkamhoua.

I wouldn't hate an eventual lineup of...

Zeigler, Dilione, Mashack, Phillips, Dante

I'm starting to wonder what is more important to next year's team. Obviously you need a PG in the event ZZ can't go. But if you have confidence in Dilione/Mashack/BJE holding down that spot, is a combo guard who is an elite shooter more of a priority? I'm not sure we are going to have enough outside shooting threats, next year, without improvement from Phillips, Dilione, Mashack, and Edwards.
Yea, I don’t think they’d take a Yuri, an undersized guy who’s a facilitator and not much of a shooter/scorer, need a guy that can absolutely score and ideally from outside and inside.

Wonder if we look at Walter Clayton Jr. from Iona... 6'2" 195lb PG 16.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.2apg and just 1.8 turnovers this past season.

Demarcus Sharp I think was already discussed, but he appears to either be following his coach to Austin Peay or will end up at Missouri. 6'3" 170lbs and had 19.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 1.9 spg.

Taran Armstrong is another name...big kid at 6'5" was good for 11.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 5.0 apg at California Baptist. Australian who was with the NBA Global Academy (like Santi).

I also like Ta'Lon Cooper from Minnesota, he had 9.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 6.3 apg while there shoots the 3 well and has great size 6'4" 190lbs

Amaree Abram leaving Ole Miss is also an interesting one, 6'4" was a top 100 ranked RSCI kid and has 33 SEC games with over 20 mpg. 8 ppg, 2 rpg, 2 apg. Shot over 36% from deep as well.

Would also probably take Primo Spears from Georgetown, 6'3" 185lbs went for 16.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.3 apg didn't shoot a ton of 3s was more of a drive to the rim player.

Ques Glover is also in the portal again, 5th year and this will be stop 3. Also Skyy Clark already leaving Illinois after just a season heading to Louisville (guess some of these kids value getting paid more than winning LOL)

Daeshun Ruffin of Ole Miss would interest me if he hits the portal. Wasn’t he a five star out of hs who’s struggled with injury. Remembered him looking talented against us last year before his injury. Maybe with the coaching change a fresh start somewhere else might be welcomed?

Was a top 50 kid...big time concerns though IMO. He's been there 2 seasons and only played 25 games, he's 5'9" and 160lbs and despite being a "score first" type of PG he's a sub 38% FG and sub 30% from 3PT for his career.

I wouldn't so much mind Ruffin if we were solely looking to replace Zeigler. Unfortunately, we are sort of asking for a unicorn who can not only potentially fill in for ZZ, but also replace the shooting ability of Vescovi. Ruffin doesn't really do that at his shooting percentage. If we somehow ended up with another spot to fill (someone unexpectedly transfers out), I'd be fine taking Ruffin and then another SG or combo G who can shoot the lights out.

Any of these guys comparable to the Cobe kid who ended up at Tulsa? From what little I read about him he did seem to have the attributes we were looking for. Not sure how close this list is to his level (or if I am overestimating him).

HARD pass. This guy hurts Arizona just as much as he helps them.
I’ll defer as I’ve not watched him a ton, but when I have he has seemed like a good player that you love if he’s on your team and hate if he’s not. He’s 37% from 3 and a 2:1 assist ratio at 5apg which are both good numbers.

Given that he and ZZ were part of the postgame dust-up when we played them, you have to ask how adding KK would fit from a chemistry standpoint. Might not be the best mix. But ZZ seems like a "moves on easily" kinda guy, too. Not sure Barnes would even want the circus that comes with Kriisa. Would be an interesting conversation.

The curious question is why is he leaving Arizona?

Cobe was just 5'11" and very much a scorer from any level. Not sure any of those guys fit that mold exactly, I'd say Sharp or Clayton Jr would be the closest comparisons although both are a bit bigger.

I really like Clayton just because he's a very efficient scorer. He shot 45.5% FG, 43.1% 3PT, and 95.3% at the free throw line.

I’ve seen him kill countless runs by throwing temper tantrums, taunting, and getting T’d up or having to be removed from the game by Lloyd so he doesn’t get T’d up. He almost cost them the game against us with his antics towards the end. He’s like Uros if Uros decided to do most of his antics in crunch time. I’d absolutely take him off skill alone, but he’s someone that even Arizona fans were fed up with a lot of the season because of his ability to friendly fire on his own team with his craziness.

Also...after 3 years starting at Arizona I have to ask why is Kriisa wanting out? You've started 70 of 76 games you've played in while averaged 29.6 mpg...and Arizona is about as Blue Blood as you can get...why leave now?

I can only assume he wants to be given a full greenlight on offense, because he's just averaging 8.2 FGAs a game for his career.

Gotcha, thanks for the info.

Or if all of the above is accurate that he’s basically a team cancer then maybe it wasn’t his call to leave?

That, or he's been encouraged to take a look around, which is what I'm afraid of.

Agreed, and playing for Rick you know he's gotten good coaching in his first 2 seasons there. He also had a good game against UConn he could be a Santi replacement with a bit more ability to run the point even.

They've reached out to Sharp, Dunn & Mack to my knowledge as far as guys actually in the portal, Dunn is an off ball type, could probably play PG in a pinch but I don’t think you’d want him as PG1. You keep your options open with recruiting, our season isn’t over and end of year discussions have yet to take place so a transfer out could always happen.

As for returning guys I don’t think any will, as far as who I would want, in order…Santi, Olivier, JJJ, Plav, I think the staff would welcome any of the first 3 back, Plav not so much, but again I don’t expect any of them back.

I’m not an insider but agree w BTO. Santi is the one player I could see returning as he is only 21 yrs old and loves college life.
