Anosike had a 10” vertical.Seems as if some people have already forgotten that EJ Anosike was a walking double double at a low major school. Came here and was a total non factor by the time conference play rolled around. Perfect illustration of how big the gap between SEC and a low major school really is.
Anosike had a 10” vertical.
6’6 and a 10” vertical. It was never gonna happen. That is completely irrelevant to the point I was making. The point is that EJ, regardless of his vertical, was a stud at a smaller school but was a non factor here. Similar situation for James Daniel III. Dude was the leading scorer in division I at Howard, but averaged only averaged 5 points per game here. Even Tyreke Key was a star at Indiana State and for most of the season we’ve had people on here saying he can’t play at this level.
Point being, success for a player at the low major level often time doesn’t translate to the high major level. So the belief that our front court would be immensely better with Pember is naive.
He played well against Vandy and LSU early in the year. A&M shut him down. Big body, not a great rebounder. Good FT shooter. Has interest from a lot of Division 1 teams, but I agree I hope we can aim higher. We do need a BF/post player and a PG.PF/C. Only 6’8” but a big body who can step out and shoot (33%ish from 3 in 155 attempts). Honestly hope we do better than him in the portal this year, but he’ll be a decently hot commodity as you can tell from that list.
I think most are saying he proved he couldn't play early at this level, and that despite his high-level production at the mid-major level, it is still to be determined how much his unlocked ability translates to the high-major level. He isn't going to Michigan, or any other Big 10 or SEC school and averaging 21 and 9, most likely. But even if he came in and averaged 11 and 5, that is someone most teams could use.Well no way that’s true. This board says he can’t play at this level.
Going to need transfers with the attrition hit. So, does worrying about the ones we got include those unhappy players who are here now, but may leave? Will Jefferson stay? I think there’s a good chance Phillips doesn’t go pro, but doesn’t stay here. Look at UTs fast break points and offensive efficiency. Guys want to play for teams that unlock their offensive potential.Agreed, lets hope no one we got transfers!
I know that wasn't what you meant by your post but it's reality these days in college sports
