The article in CNN makes it clear that he was specifically asked to confirm or deny that he was a source for the story which ran in The Atlantic, and Kelly confirmed that he was. The article doesn't leave as much wiggle room as you seem to think it does.

Not defensive but I don't look at Trump as a polished politician who says everything perfectly..he's is a old school NY ahole..he says dumb crap just like every other human in the world. I don't look for everything said as a negative..I didn't with Biden..even when his racist remarks. As for Trump personally..I think he is not a great person but not the worst person..I have seen too many stories of him helping and treating people great.
Now whether that's for attention for heartfelt is different..and I always defer to his popularity prior to his running for POTUS.

I think its good to honor the people that have died, but that doesn't change the fact that it was for a wasted reason(s).

The vast majority of politicians don't care if these people died and actually plot for them to die without a noble cause. Dying isn't the problem, dying without a real cause is.... dying for greed and political ambitions is even worse.

Like I said earlier, I don't believe the comments were a protest of specific conflicts.

I think Trump genuinely doesn't understand the sacrifice itself, and whether the sacrifice was made in World War II, Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan doesn't matter. It's not a sacrifice that a narcissist such as Trump would ever make or even understand. Every indication is that Trump only cares about himself.
