2024 Recruiting Class?

5 freshmen and only 3 seniors this year. And TN will be in the portal again to replace some offense and upper class leadership (ZZ, Gainey, Aidoo, Awaka, and Mashack are all of the 2024-25 juniors and seniors). TN doesn’t really need developmental players this cycle.

And we have JJJ coming back for season 11 too, so that should help a lot

I think JJJ could achieve the ultimate if he had one more year. He could be the first Vol to score 40 points in one game and follow that up with a negative amount of points the next game. He would go 9 for 10 from three against Ky and then go 0-12 in the next game while accidentally making one in the wrong goal.

If you haven't learned by now, Barnes has always had a plan that fills the roster out. Most years everyone panics and then we end up with a roster that is arguably better than the previous year.
It would be nice to already know and get excited about the future, but the staff has proven their ability to fill the roster, so there's no need to pancic.

I am already looking forward to next year. Tennessee has some talented freshman along with Mashack, Aidoo, ZZ, Awaka coming back. I expect at least one good portal player will be added. We are getting spoiled. Barnes has done a wonderful job at Tennessee.

Have some holes to fill but we will still be very experienced next year again with Zeigler, Gainey, Mashack, Awaka and Aidoo. Expect this will be our starters unless we find another alpha scorer at forward. Carr is going to be good at either wing. Dilione just needs to get healthy and gain some confidence. Both Estrella and Phillips will be very good depth in frontcourt as they continue to develop. Bishop Boswell is 4-star big strong combo guard with evidently some PG skills but expect is going to need some time to develop. Only question is Jefferson and whether he comes back or not. I hope he does as he seems obviously talented and would be a nice athletic 3 in this offense.

Will have 2 or 3 spots available next year at current status. We could play bigger next year and play somewhat like we did when had Grant Williams and Kyle Alexander starting in the frontcourt with (Aidoo/Awaka) and just have 3 guards surround them.

Would like to find another scoring forward to replace Knecht and interestingly enough there is a young man at Northern Colorado (Saint Thomas) putting up 20 pts and 10 boards per game this year as a 6'7 200 lb junior for what it's worth. Not the upside that Knecht had but he put up 27 against a pretty good Colorado squad on the road in December. I wouldn't mind picking up another true PG in the portal but not sure anyone would want to come and play behind Zeigler for a year. A few years ago, when we played Chandler and Zeigler in the lineup at times it had positive results.

I'm sure he will test the waters and get a grade from NBA, but he is no better than a 2nd round draft pick at best or more likely not get drafted at all if he left. Has shown flashes this year to be sure to scouts. If he is just tired of school, he could go. He has one more year to show the league he can extend his range on his jumper and be consistent. I expect his defensive length is interesting to the NBA, but he would really struggle in space trying to guard stretch 5's on the perimeter in my opinion and he has been bullied in several games this year against better low post players. Can he make a squad as a backup 5 and have them move him to G-league, maybe but I think another year to improve his ranking would serve him well.

NIL improves our chances of keeping him one more year.

Assume we’ll look for a stretch 4 type in the portal to replace JJJ.

Carr/Dillione fill the wing spots vacated by Vescovi/Knecht, unless you can find a Knecht-type in the portal to fill one of them. I think both show signs of being very good, but moreso Carr. Maybe that stretch 4 position is where we get our portal stud this time.

JJJ still has 6 seasons to play 5.
