2024 Recruiting Thread

she just finished the run for the roses tourney...I think I will go back and look at her games in it and see if I could TRULY see her in the SEC. Those of you who know me know that when I am asked to be truthful I can be...and right now I need to be.

I will scout this as a scout who is scouting for a player on TN's level.
She played 3 games there and I will look at all 3.
Will report my findings on the weekend
...

...Whoever started pushing Madi on here really did her a disservice. .

Actually, not so.
Even if Madi is not found to be on TN's level of play she has been mentioned many times on their most read fanpage and has been looked at by TN several times. She has received notifications from TN and is in their view. This alone can propel her into a national spotlight and therefor put her in view of many more teams. She is known by and recognized by several scouting services and during the Boo Williams tourney her team was watched by the likes of: Missouri Minnestoa Michigan Northwestern Miami Alabama Ohio state and others. And UNC coach Banghart follows me on a social network and knows of her.

All kids such have such a dis-service!

Yeah she’s just not the caliber we are looking for. Appears she is being mostly recruited by lower tier DI programs and better DII schools. She took a visit to UNCW. Would bet she ends up at a similar school.

Does not appear she is getting interest from any P5 schools or her mother would definitely be blasting it to anyone who would listen on Twitter.

Whoever started pushing Madi on here really did her a disservice. Several of us pointed out months ago that she really didn’t have the package most top tier programs are looking for. Several posters jumped all over me for being “mean.” But that’s reality. Whomever started bringing her name up here is the mean one. They opened her up to getting picked apart by dozens of people.

Kid had a nice looking set shot but that’s all I have seen in her film. Doesn’t have a tight handle, not overly quick, does not leap well, not an elite passer and at 5’10” she plays more like a small forward with shooting range than a guard.
I DONT agree with most if this statement. Noone did her a disservice at all. Madi is one of the most well known 2024s in TENNESSEE and NATIONALLY.
Go back and look at her Twitter FB instagram and or any of her social media accounts, she is getting lots of Interest from P5 schools, not sure how many watched her this summer but seems she is pulling interest. I will agree she is not vertically inclined or lightening fast but she has a nice overall game and a great shot.
I put money on it she gets a P5 offer soon, many by the end of her senior year. You don't have to be perfect at every aspect of the game just great/elite at something and she is!!!
We all know more kids than not that play at TN right now do not have tight handles, are not lightening fast, are not elite passers but they all recieved scholarships to a P5 school so will MADI

Me too. Madi seems to be a near-perfect LVs receruit and she is in their backyard. I don't know if Madi will end up in Steph Curry's neighborhood or Ja Morant's. Would be great, especially if she is in a LVs uniform. I believe Madi would be an excellent get in the Class of 2024. It would be a shame to miss out on this one. GBO.
Agree

I just watched one game of hers in last week's Run for the Roses tourney.
(will watch another tomorrow)...

If I was scouting for TN I'd have to say her game needs to grow. First of all in this tourney she is playing in the Blue (2nd tier) division not Aqua (1st division). In this game she mirrored Tess Darby's game to a T. Though her release is much faster than Darby's her range and shot is equal ...She only attacked the basket 3X and shied away from contact on two other takes, took two midrange shots. . . Her defense at this point of her game (Jr in HS) is further along than Tess' was at her first year at UT. She can guard on the floor, where Tess was a liability. She does get deflections and is smart on "help-defense". She is a good inside-out passer and rarely turns the ball over.

For her to be a serious consideration for TN she will have to:
- work on taking it to the hoop more and finishing with imminent contact.
- incorporate more movement in her offensive game and not rely on camping-out for her shots.
- develop a mid-range offense and become an effective shooter off of shooting-screens.

She has got to take the ball to the hoop to be a successful guard in the SEC, or at P5 major college program....The refs blow the whistle almost every time a defender tries to stop the drive, which turn into easy free throw points...

This, I believe, is only her Junior year in high school, so there is still time to develop that ability, but damn the girl can shoot the long ball...And I love the long ball....

It's obvious I'm a big Steph Curry fan....He's more than fabulous...

Coach, keep us informed on what else you see about Madi....Do you know what her shooting percentage is for the long ball?

Damn, she would look so good in LV colors....I'm still keeping a good thought for little Ms. Madi...There's still time for the cosmic tumblers to click together for her...Our crowd would love her....

will do GT
Madi, her family and I havew stayed in contact since the 7th grade.
This will not change
I'd say she hits around 40%.
The thing I like about her is she is not a streak shooter,,she is consistent 40%
Not 10% one day and 70% the next like most

Coach ….. Your correlation to Tess might not be too good ? As we remember, this was Kellie’s first year at UT and with only a few months to pull together a 2020 class ! We got a # 57 recruit from Arkansas who was gone after the first year ! Tess was a Three Star and not rated …. There was a lot of procrastination about why she was not rated but she was a Tennessee kid .

Tess did start last year but why ? Rae Burrell hurt , freshmen not ready yet , Suarez out for the year ? Just Saying

Times are a changing and Tess will be lucky to get close to the same minutes this year and the minutes will become a premium for all 15/16 players ! I can’t wait to see what our coaches do with this class !

But back to Maddie …. We don’t know what is coming in 23 class , and we have offered about 6 or 7 of the top ten players in 2024 . I’ve only seen Maddie once but she does have a pretty shot from three . At her size she will have to play guard and SEC guards might give her some problems? Just my opinion…. Time will tell 🤷‍♂️

Footage from around the same time. Judge yourself folks. Hard for me to draw any comparisons. Olivia has got it goin on.

Also has enough highlights for an 8 minute tape. That’s a baller.

Madi's a SG and Olivia is a SF,,,can't compare,,apples and oranges
WOuld you compare Rennia to Tess?

There are a lot more recruits in the Class of 24 that can do a lot more than shoot the ball. That is only one part of basketball.

Uhhh sure, I agree, but Olson and Hawk are both guards and are very comparable. I’m not even the one who brought Olivia into the conversation. Just giving people the footage so they can draw their own conclusions. Most people around here watch a lot of basketball. They know what an elite player looks like.

Yes, considering Kelli likes to play her big guards at the 2, 3 , & 4 spots. She is huge about the versatility of her players in those positions, i.e., Marta, Rae, Rennia, Jordan, Sarah etc. Look at what Justine has been working on prior to arriving on campus. I am sure the coaching staff gave pointers to her about where they wanted her to improve before arriving. Tightening her ball handling and getting in the paint seemed to be big on the agenda.

re=read the above,,,I think I said everything that is being re-said

Olson may be labeled a PG/SG but she attacks and has the versatility of a SF

You have to be athletic, have some quicks and be a good/very good ball handlers be a high-level guard/wing in basketball. If you don't have those skills, then you do not belong at big programs. Shooting isn't enough. If you're not quick and athletic, then you aren't going to be a good man defender--and half of every game is played on the defensive end, so being able to defend well is /very/ important. If you don't have a good handle, then you can't get your own shot, and that's a problem. If all you can do is make jumpers when left open, then that's not enough--as opponents will make it hard for good shooters, and if a shooter without any other good qualities isn't getting open looks, then s/he is probably giving up points on the other end of the floor. And, yes, we've had a few such players over the years.

Madi is anything but, "just a shooter"
I got her summer numbers
19 games she averaged:
364 total points,,,19.2 average
55.2% from three
6 RB's
4 steals
4 assists
Most any team would love to have this "such player"

I stick with my scouting report,,to be a LV she has to do this in the Aqua/platinum division,,,but even in tier two...impressive,,,especially 50+% from 3

As of today what universities have offered Madi Hawk Coach Jumper? That would help with the discussion.

Michigan Alabama Vanderbilt Iowa state have reached out and are still in contact w her...She has 14 offers to date.

But it is still early,,,she still has two years of HS to go.
its late,,,time for zzzz's...
