They don’t have to come. But I promise you there are many that will come. Why would UT care what other teams want. I know very few that do the big tournaments and travel for midweeks except the states where the legislature requires it. I don’t know if it is still in place but many state legislatures require schools to play certain other schools.

Seems to be quite a bit of concern over how other programs choose to schedule their mid weeks. Give it a rest.
Seriously? So much for a discussion forum LOL!!!! Oh....and there was another response after mine. Are you going to tell that poster to "give it a rest?"

I guess the "many that will come" don't care about their player's physical and mental well being or their academic success.

No they just want to play an SEC school. For many, that is their closest CWS experience. I just don’t get why any SEXc team would go to inferior fields with bad umpires and many times low crowds. That does not help.

If someone actually watched that game from Cullowhee a couple years ago, you'd understand what Preacher is saying.

That wasn't a valuable experience. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a waste of time, but...it was close.

Midweeks can be such a weird thing and schools handle them different ways, but I think Tennessee handles them the right way most of the time.

Best I remember, it was an extremely competitive game... 12-14 maybe? If you think a competitive road game is a bigger waste of time that beating Alabama A&M 23-1 at home then you are delusional

It was a close game by score but it was because we threw 14 pitchers and they started their Friday guy and then their Saturday guy. We also came close to getting both of our coaches ejected because there were 2 umpires and they were literally bad HS umpires. They did not even know the college rules. We also played everybody and they played only their starters which made it very close. But the fact that a couple of our guys got sick riding on the bad roads into there and they did not get home until 2 in the morning and only less than 100 fans total were there. What did we gain by going there? I just don't see what we gain by going on road trips like that and why would we? I'm trying to figure out why some of you are pushing to go places like that on a Tuesday rather than playing on our own field. So help me understand your point of view. Just because it is a close game does not mean you learned anything. It was just a bad baseball game on a bad field with bad umpires and a bad crowd.

When Western comes to Knoxville, they ride the same roads, get back home at the same time. And nobody made Tony pitch 14 guys and play the backups.. that was his decision.
I've already said it once, but I'll say it again: There is value in playing in uncomfortable, perhaps non-ideal situations and locations with unfriendly fans BEFORE SEC and tournament play begins

He does that. This year going to Dallas. But you seem so worried about the other teams more than UT baseball. Why would a coach worry about the other team? He has to pitch that many guys to know who can compete when it comes SEC time. I don't see how you don't get that. I reckon I am wasting my breath or key strokes. The goal for midweek games is to give players playing time so that you get them ready if they are needed. You don't seem to get that there is no hostile environment in these games. And the fields are nothing like what they will see in SEC play. If you were pushing for them to go to other P5 schools on Tuesdays I would get that but that is why they go to the early season tournaments. The SEC is brutal enough. You don't need additional games that will bring losses. Then you won't get in the playoffs or host which is the goal.

This conversation is dumb. Just read through it. We've made the CWS 2 of the last 3 years. Don't think the lack of midweek road environments with 100 fans in a high school stadium is impacting our success on the road or in the post-season. Give me a break....
