So, GMac is in the boat and off and running on the O side, who can we prioritize and get on board on the D side to start building this class?

I am absolutely lost on this issue. A few early wins on the O side could give us momentum if we get a magnet type on board on D.

Good and prone to early commit watchlist.

Thanks.

Utley but it will be a battle to land him. He’s a top fifty player, Dline, instate. Idk that the timeline on him is early. I think you could see a lot of offensive guys start to trend this way soon possibly snowballing some guys on the defensive side.
Thanks. I read a lot of the recruiting board posts, and usually get a feel fo the lay of the land, but I am more lost than usual. Hoping for your potential trend deal to come true. I guess the NIL deal makes early decisions by big timers harder to come by now more than ever.

There’s always a guy like Boo Carter that kind of knows everyone and tries to pull guys. Idk who that guy is next year on the defensive side of the ball. GMac of course is going to pull a lot of guys as well on offense.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but it just seems like with nil and transfer portal, the initial recruiting just isn’t as important

You’re absolutely wrong. Initial recruiting can set you up for portal players as well. Look at Georgia they haven’t been as active in the portal but have won back to back titles and lost only one game this year.

HS recruiting will always be the most important tool for a program. You simply cannot sustain and build a program by relying mainly on the portal year in and year out.

I would say Utley. And we will get him. Big ties to coach G.

I get the question but there really isn’t a fair comparison. QB is the most important position and also provides stats for other position groups on offense (WR, TE, RB).

Not on the same level, but I think if it’s on the defensive side, it comes down to the same thing. Through camps and social media, it’s just a mixture of known talent and meshing together with others.

Recruiting is still far and away still the most vital part to sustaining a program. You cannot become portal dependent on everyone. It isn’t feasible. GBO

True, but look what we ave done in the portal to fill a few holes.
A few holes don’t equate to the core of your team. Yes teams will use portals to fill depth and sometimes pick up quality players. But recruiting is still the lifeblood of a quality program for the long haul. And it always will be. GBO

The hole filled are very important snd will help us through out net year and beyond. I feel much more comfortable with the 2024 team now than I did a week ago.

I didn’t say NOT important, I said not AS important. Maybe a little reading comprehension on your part in this conversation would be helpful

When you have Banks and Willie, do you really need a bell cow recruit?

No need for the hateful attitude there pal. I answered your question.

If you want to split hairs yes the portal makes it not as important but it’s still the life blood of your program.

Would be interesting to see cost of portal guys vs high school talent. All of college football has become more of a business to players, I do think you get a lot more high school players looking for more than just money. Portal guys are strictly usually looking at money or playing time. I think IF you do a good job in identifying and developing high school talent that is probably the cheaper but slower way to develop a roster/team; portal is faster but elite players are likely going to command more money and maybe your risk is less bc you’re getting a more polished proven player. I think long term having a competitive team and not breaking the bank you have to be good recruiting high school.

Apologies if my earlier post came off salty as well. Hell half the time I don’t mean to offend people.

Guess we will get an indicator of the validity of that position this fall. The obvious retooling of the DB rooms can give us a trend analysis if it has been PRIMARILY a Jimmy’s and Joe’s problem or an X’s and O’s issue.

The highly redundant attackers have a lot on the line. Have been a lot of folks in the middle questioning the basis of those attacks, but not a lot of skin in the game by equally overbearing pro Coach posters on the other end of the spectrum.

4-5 games in should be a big enough sample size after the break in period and against a range of opponents to debate the subject once more.
