2025 defensive bell cow?

The hole filled are very important snd will help us through out net year and beyond. I feel much more comfortable with the 2024 team now than I did a week ago.
There would be no 2024 team without the high school recruiting. I think the real issue is that there is a faction of people hoping the transfer portal will make the schools who keep getting the best players the real way (hs recruiting), not so untouchable. I don't agree, but I can feel their sentiment.

But what the portal also does is allow a talented player to glom onto an already winning team. Like UGA getting the rb from Florida. They already have a great team, and can cherry pick to be even greater. But the key factor here is they recruited that great team, and only enhanced it in the portal.

Unlike HS signing days which can only add talent, the portal can give and the portal can take away. ALL KINDS of potentials out there, but it SEEMS to me, that OVERALL it will be harder to hoard talent in the current portal world. IF they have a need due to missies, injury or portal flight, then yes those at the top can look very attractive, but stockpiling talent from sequential successful signing days is for sure tougher.

Those in the trailing position can cost justify larger NIL deals and show a faster path to starting positions and NFL inquiring eyes. Seems to me it would be harder to cost justify matching NIL $ for keeping or adding depth in the open market. The Robin Hood model of robbing the rich will be part of the story, upwardly mobile guys will also put themselves in play from the poor.

Plus/minus numbers year to year will eventually tell the REAL winner and loser story on total roster management, the combination of signing days and net portal numbers as evidenced on the field the next year in our new one year rental environment.

Declaring victory or loss player to player real time is a fool's errand that all of US have exercised time to time. I am trying to reform.

If you can actually recruit like UGA has, then you will be still be in a great spot. Hoarding is not how I would describe it, but being at the top of the recruiting rankings every year is certainly the way to go until proven otherwise..
They weak or the infirm kids will leave if it looks too tough for their pansy asses and the cream will consistently rise to the top. And there is still the chance for the highly ranked recruiting programs to cherry pick other lesser teams who do have actually talented players that want to upgrade their own situation.
This will be be a new era and I'm interested to see how it all plays out.

Maybe I am misreading the portal site for GA and Bama, but I too see culls, regardless of stars, but also high end desired guys mobile since there is no wait time now. They can still replenish through both channels, but continuity has to suffer. Even if you break even talent wise, learning curves are what they are.

This thread is exactly what I'm trying to figure out. Every year since Heup has been here, he and his staff (Coach G / Eckeler) have landed at least 1 or 2 elite borderline 5 star defensive linemen or edge rushers...

22- James Pearce / Tyre West
23- Daevan Hobbs / Chandavian Bradley / Caleb Herring
24- Jordan Ross

Who is gonna be in 25' ? So far I haven't been able to zero in on one.

I know we will have some quality ones like Ethan Utley and others but I'm not sure if any will be in that elite blue chip ish tier.

West and Hobbs grew into partial interior guys. But basically we have missed a ton on interior Dline.

Utley would be huge to reverse that trend. The Jenkins kid fro DC is 6´5¨ 315, and the House kid from Charlotte is one to watch
