2025 NBA Season Thread aka Draymond's Annual Wealth Destruction Tour

Part of it is Ausar missed 20 games because of his blood clot issues so he got off to a slow start but I love everything about his game. I don’t care that he can’t shoot, he’s such an awesome cutter and passer that it doesn’t matter that much overall.

You get 1 spot in the lineup for non-shooters. That person better be able to defend the rim, or handle the ball, and he can do both. And his off-ball game is great, like you say. Yeah, it sucks he can't shoot but he can do these other things and he's special enough as an athlete that it's easy to find 4 shooters to put on the floor in a lineup that works, because he can make up for bad defenders.

Nothing can save the all-star game. It's worse in recent years, but the truth is it's never been good. Every once in a while we have a good 4th quarter.

I have to correct myself...apparently the all-star game was great before my time. Bill Simmons said back in the 80's, a lot of the guys in the all-star game never/rarely played on national TV, so the only time you got to see them was when they played your team or in the all-star game. He said guys brought it more, and the fan enthusiasm was on another level.

Correct, I watched the game in the 80's it was way more intense from start to finish. The East wanted to kill the West and vice versa...

Do you listen to Simmons idea? I liked it but didn't love it. I think the Saturday All-Star Game would be a problem. But home court is a fun idea. It didn't work in baseball, but the problem was baseball NEVER committed to it. They still had 30+ player roster sizes, they still did the game on Tuesday so some pitchers couldn't pitch, they still made sure at least one player was represented from every team in baseball. The managers felt bad if someone didn't get to play so they still played everyone. In 2010, the AL was down 3-1 and sent out Jose Valverde to face Michael Bourn (bad Houston team), Chris Young (bad Arizona team) and Marlon Byrd (bad Cubs team). I thought Simmons idea to have it 8 on 8 with 40 minutes and have to be a top 5 seed with one wild card is interesting.

It's not happening and I didn't really care about it. I think I'm just out on exhibition in general. Don't even care about friendlies in soccer where they actually play pretty competitively. Basing home court advantage on an exhibition game kinda undermines the rest of the season, IMO.

I thought Van Latham brought up a great point. All-Star games have just hit its expiration date. I can watch Jokic play every game he plays in if I choose. You play every single team in MLB every year now. We've basically hit human evolution on dunks and plays unless you're dunking on a dude. I can catch 10 minutes of LaMelo Ball highlights from his last game if I want to burn my eyes out with acid. They just really don't have a point anymore in 2025.

I love Van, and he thinks he keeps it real, but he did not keep it real with Bill. He fake laughs at his jokes. If he's on the pod with anybody else, he's clowning the guy for saying Drake needed to go after Kendrick's height more. That was the worst take.
