2025 NCAA WBB Tournament non LV games and news

Phew I'm so glad we didn't have to play opening rounds at NC St. again this year. They're 14-23 on 3s going into the 4th quarter with a 33 point lead.
Their next game they are liable to shoot 4-23, they are extremely inconsistent shooting the ball. MSU obviously didn't get the memo that you have to guard Hayes and James out to the three line.

Does anyone have substantial thoughts on whether we match up better with Texas or Illinois? I haven't watched Illinois at all this year, and I assume Texas will win but want to pull for whoever we have the best chance against.

Seed aside, Illinois would be a better matchup for us. They don’t have size and aren’t deep. Usually only play 6 players.

Texas isn’t super deep but they are deep on the interior which gives us trouble especially if we get in foul trouble with Zee.

Call me crazy but I think So Dak St has a real opportunity to upset uconn. They matchup with them really well and UConn doesn’t have a center to challenge them. They are way better than a 10 seed, play great ball and have a veteran team. If UConn has a poor shooting day they could be in trouble.

Agreed. Illinois is pretty good at getting to the FT line and is 7th in the country at FT% so that could be a problem for us given our foul rate, but otherwise they really don't seem to match up well with us.

I think we've become a more disciplined rebounding team with our boxouts and attention to detail since the first Texas game (they outrebounded us 39-24, including 9 Taylor Jones offensive boards), but it's hard to imagine they'll let us shoot 50% on FGs and 53% on 3s again (including Latham and Spearman going a combined 4-5 on 3s). They're super hard to turn over (14th in the country in turnover rate) and we only forced 12 in the first game. Kind of astounding we only lost that game by 4 at their place considering they had 10 more shots than us and mostly didn't let us play our game.

Tennessee 10 matches up with any 5 that a team can put on the floor in the March Madness.
It doesn’t matter who they play against, the LVs are locked in and can beat anyone.
24 and counting.
GBO!

Texas bigs are lazy setting screens. Illinois doing a good job selling it.

I’m interested how much difference, if any, having Kim on the sideline against Texas will make. The team played well in her absence that game but I felt like we might have won if she’d been there.

Too much size for Illinois. Getting killed around the rim now. Unfortunate because they have some real size but neither player is available. They have 6’7” vasconselos who started her career at Baylor and a 6’6” freshman. Neither seems to be available or able to play though.

I follow SDSU casually every season (friend who an alumni). I wouldn’t be shocked if they kept it relatively close at first but I don’t think they are able to play consistently great for 40 minutes.

Now if the whistles come out and UConn gets into some foul trouble early … could be more interesting. Maybe.

Always a long shot, just looking at matchups it’s possible though. I think more so if the officials swallow the whistle some and allow SDSU to play physical with Bueckers and Fudd.

Fudd in particular struggles with physical play. We were really physical with her and forced her to defend by attacking her off the bounce almost every possession. Really took her out of rhythym.

Low scoring game but I don't think U of I has the firepower to come back from that deficit. FSU vs. LSU might be the game of the night
Maryland/bama could be really fun. I think Bama wins that one. Maryland hasn’t been the same since McDaniels went out. She came off the bench for them but was a huge spark.

It'll likely be a beating for SDSU like Mich.St. just took, only maybe more severe. These games today are anticlimactic wastes of time to watch, 😏
