This is Dubar’s 5th year of playing college basketball
If they had redshirted. The rule has been 5 years to play 4, so if you redshirted you could transfer and play a 5th year. Then I’m in the dark as to exactly the rule change is about. The free COVID year is just now running out for current super seniors. Grads have been able to transfer for a 5th year for a while now. Maybe it’s to give the current 4th year seniors the same option as last years 4th year seniors had with the COVID option.
Then there’s also the JUCO thing. That rule change would have impacted Knecht.
I’ve thought the same before. Even with how great Ziegler is, he has some ugly stretches where it’d be really beneficial to have another point guard to put in to let him settle down. It would also free up our point guards to play more aggressive defense. Can we please for once sign two Point Guards. So tired of not having a legitimate backup.
So Fulky could essentially come back for 8 more yearsIf they had redshirted. The rule has been 5 years to play 4, so if you redshirted you could transfer and play a 5th year.
Then came the COVID stuff, those in school during that season got a free year essentially, that runs out this year, shouldn’t be any of those guys left after this season, see Zeigler, got 4 years to play and he’s exhausted all 4, no 5th year if he graduates and transfers, no COVID year because he wasn’t in college when that season happened, his 4 years are up.
So new rule proposal is 5 years of eligibility for everyone, likely no redshirting, no waivers, you have 5 years to play or not to play, but that’s all you get. Those who have played 5 years already this wouldn’t affect, see Chaz and Dubar, those who have only played 4 would in theory get another year, as well as every underclassmen also and freshman going forward.

hubbsNothing new to report on the recruiting front for the 2025 class. Tennessee is still active and looking to add a couple of bodies to the class at least.
There is no more representative example of the current state of recruiting than five-star Nate Ament, the No. 3 overall player in the Class of 2025, releasing his ‘top 11 schools’ this week. In January.
Tennessee continues to pursue Ament, who made an official visit to Knoxville in October. That recruitment appears to have a lot of twists and turns in it before it reaches its final destination.
Tennessee is hopeful of getting Ament on campus for an unofficial visit this month or next, but with blue bloods like Kansas and Kentucky clamoring to just get an official that might be a tough task.
hubbsTennessee is set to host five-star guard Brayden Burries this coming week. He’s slated for a midweek visit for the Mississippi State game.
One of the highest ranked unsigned prospects in the Class of 2025 Burries has taken official visits thus far to Arizona, SMU, Alabama, and Oregon. Alabama is in the mix here as are USC and UCLA.
hubbsTennessee remains very much in the hunt for four-star point guard Chance Mallory. The one-time Virginia commit is one of the top unsigned point guards in the ’25 class and a guy that has a lot of similarities to Zakai Zeigler in his game.
That’s been a big selling point for Tennessee with him and something that has apparently been appealing. Virginia is trying to stay involved and Maryland and Virginia Tech are pushing, but it feels like Tennessee is in a strong spot here at the moment.
hubbsTennessee feels like the team to beat for point guard Zyree Collins who made an official visit two weeks ago. That is an under the radar recruit that the Vols are high on.
