2025 Target List

Not really the place for transfer portal talk, but Basilio just floated a name to close his show that you probably won't hear in the mainstream.

I know...Basilio, take it with a grain of salt.

Elyjah Freeman, 6'8 freshman at D2 LMU (Lincoln Memorial Univ.) In Harrogate, TN. Currently averaging 17.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.8 spg and shooting 58%/42%/77%. According to Tony, this kid is blowing up and Tennessee is "on him like white on rice".
Correct, Rick personally reached out to get grades and video a couple weeks ago. He’s from Florida so not sure if he’s wanting to get back there but we’ve been very active about the last month there.

His size + outside shot + step up in competition raise concerns. But with increased scholarships I assume he’s more of a depth piece?
I believe he leads the nation in 2-pt FGAs at 5-10 which is remarkable, and he hits 46.2%. As the competition level increases, that efficiency probably dips but his ball-handling and shot creation are really excellent. Also a good mid-range game. He's an 80% FT shooter, too, so i think the ability is there for him to become a better outside shooter, and we've seen Barnes turn around the shots of other players who put the work in (Punter, Schofield, Bone).

Not much you can do there. He just wants be at Virginia no matter what. It’s alright. Get Zyree Collins and Budd Clark. Tennessee will be fine
I don't think Zyree Collins is Chance Mallory level, so it's concerning because I want more than one capable ball-handler that can play next year. No sure thing that Mallory would be ready, but probably more likely than Collins. I guess if ZZ gets another year, it's less concerning.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mallory goes back to Virginia. Trilly said is waiting to see what UVA hires and if the new coach takes him. He is going there
I had heard if they made the interim HC he was likely going back there, but nobody expects UVA to go that route and many didn’t think Mallory would wait until April.

Rather use the rest of the spots on transfers and the project guys.

PG: Budd / Boswell / Collins
SG: Transfer / Evans
SF: Transfer / Little Okpara
PF: Freeman / I’ll put Cade here for now
C: Okpara / JP / Brown

Also, didn’t realize Freeman was a McDonalds AA Nominee.

You don’t think Boswell can develop into a serviceable backup pg?

I just don't see him with PG skills. I've really yet to see him with any distinguishable skill. It doesn't mean it can't develop, but if we bring in two more guards who are already more natural PGs than him, I doubt he sticks around to find out.

He reminds me a good bit of BJ Edwards. Same build, but I think BJ might have been a better player as a freshman, and he has since developed and is having a nice year for Andy Enfield as SMU. Boswell just feels like a tweeter to me. Not a good enough ball-handler to be a primary lead guard, and not a good enough shooter to be an off-guard. Admittedly, that is based on only 80 minutes of action, but in that time he's 2 for 10 shooting, 0-5 from 3, and has as many TOs as assists. The staff is obviously seeing more than that in practice, but he just feels like a guy that probably will find greener pastures this offseason, especially if we bring in a transfer PG and a freshman PG and his heart is set on playing that position.

I would say exactly the same thing. You can see exactly why Barnes likes him. He has some of the qualities that Barnes values the most. I feel very comfortable saying he should develop into a plus defender that is very physical and takes pride in his defense. Offensively he has not shown the ability to be a play-making PG. His ballhandling and passing have not shown that yet. And off the ball he has not shown to be a strong perimeter shooter. His offseason development will be huge in determining his trajectory. He will need to make some major strides offensively, from what we have seen. Like cncchris33 says though, we have no idea what he shows in practice. He might have more of those skills than we know and he just has not been able to carry them over into game action yet.

I remember Andrew Slater took that random shot at him the day he committed saying he would eventually "transfer down" or something along those lines. Thought it was so weird at the time but I definitely think it was just referring to how far away his offense is especially as a tweener as you mentioned. Have also seen Trilly mention he's on his transfer portal radar as well so I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out
