Gimme Rice and Freeman first and foremost. If we have the money to also bring in Ament, go for it.
Just think we need more certainty about being able to excel at the major college level THIS season. Said it before...I'm not sold on counting on the one and done 5 star types in year one in the SEC.
Freeman will be easier to coach having already been in a college program. Coach Stan is awesome and there’s a reason why he’s been successful.I don’t understand why people think Freeman is such a guarantee to be a more polished player immediately than Ament. Freeman played in D2. It’s not like he was putting up huge numbers in the high majors.
Don’t misinterpret, I’m excited about Freeman but he’s just as likely to need time to adjust to SEC play as Ament does.
This 100%. I really want Freeman here, but honestly it's more about what he can do in Year 2 (assuming he doesn't transfer after Year 1 lol) than it is what he can do in Year 1. Adjusting from D2 to D1 is tough. Adjusting from D2 to the SEC is probably the biggest jump you could make aside from high school to SEC. He absolutely will need time to adjust.I don’t understand why people think Freeman is such a guarantee to be a more polished player immediately than Ament. Freeman played in D2. True. From my perspective, it's a kid fresh out of HS vs a player who's been playing college ball, dealing with college life and benefitted from strength and conditioning. He's a year more physically and emotionally mature. Just think the jump for Freeman won't be quite as big as Ament. One other thing that I question is the players perspective and goals. Freeman will be thinking he's still going to be in college next year while Ament might be focusing on a professional career and viewing UT as a layover stop. Yeah, my mind wanders on me and lies to me sometimes. Likely wrong on this and Ament is the next Durant. Hope we get both....and Rice.I don’t understand why people think Freeman is such a guarantee to be a more polished player immediately than Ament. Freeman played in D2. I don't have time to do the research, but I'd be willing to bet that the amount of 5 stars that have made the jump from high school to college compared to the guys that have jumped from D2 to D1 has been much more successful, and impactful to their team. Especially top 5 guys.True. From my perspective, it's a kid fresh out of HS vs a player who's been playing college ball, dealing with college life and benefitted from strength and conditioning. It might be the overall bad taste from our recent history with the one and done types. And yes, there might also be some bias due to our recent football issues. Know that's not fair or rational but....I don't have time to do the research, but I'd be willing to bet that the amount of 5 stars that have made the jump from high school to college compared to the guys that have jumped from D2 to D1 has been much more successful, and impactful to their team. With these elite players now its no longer I want to play for xx school its just this is the school that's payed me the most to play for them.
Yeah I'm not getting this. Freeman is like one year older than Ament and was playing against D2 talent while Ament played against top level completion like the Boozer twins. I hope we get all 3 but it's not like Ament is doing something egregious against Tennessee and personally milking them. If anything Rice going to visit USC seems like a ploy to get a little extra cash from vols. Can’t this exact same quote be applied to guys like Rice and Freeman? If they weren’t in it for the money, wouldn’t they have made a decision by now?
I feel like this board is being weirdly harsh on Ament. I’m not sure why we view these portal players as any different or more mature than a high school player.

Yes to any player who plays for cash. Not trashing them just stating this is the new college athletics now. Can’t this exact same quote be applied to guys like Rice and Freeman? If they weren’t in it for the money, wouldn’t they have made a decision by now?

There is a good reason that Duke, Kentucky, and Arkansas are after Ament too. Obviously the staff feels he is worth the risk.Exactly. I’m not sure at what point this idea that Top 5 talents aren’t worth the trouble began, but it’s dumb. It’s well-documented that we have the resources to land all 3 and there is some sentiment on here that Ament is immature and milking his recruitment, which I don’t think is fair to him. His ceiling is significantly higher than Rice/Freeman and we’re acting like Ament is some chump.
Agreed. College basketball has been a sport of one and dones for a long time. While rosters are getting older, you still have to put the chips down on the young guys who are NBA bound.A lot of y’all would be able to cope with the modern landscape of college athletics by thinking of the roster one year at a time, and Ament is the best available option for next year. High school, transfer, whatever he’s an exceptional talent and saying we should prioritize Freeman because he’s played 1 year of Division 2 basketball is certifiably insane.
