Don't stay away so long, the kids took over the board and started making up dirty names like they were back in the third grade. Thanks for bringing information budOn Rice, we have drafted NIL paperwork. I’ve only seen us draft papers and not get the player once. Just about everything points to him coming here. They seem to be milking the purse by doing zooms with USC and Gonzaga, but that’s pretty normal.
On Ament, nothing new. I think everyone is fatigued, but not giving up. Since we have so many openings, we aren’t in a decision pinch. Everyone thinks his recruitment won’t go past mid next week.
Pozzato did a physical earlier this week and is fully cleared. I assume they’ll be more diligence there. Too risky otherwise. This kid is such a natural bucket. I hope we pursue more.
Freeman is someone we need to get on a visit as he’s gotten a lot of new interest.
Closing Rice will set a new wave of recruiting in motion next week. Staff loves his defensive athleticism and his scoring at all levels. He’s got all their attention until it’s done. Hopefully late Sunday/early Monday.
Not a lot of new substance here, but continued optimism for Rice is the big story.
YES, Like the year we were after Silas Demary Jr & Freddie Dilione. Demary liked TN and was friends w Aidoo, but when Freddie quickly committed soon after the Demary visit & that led to Demary going elsewhere. Better to get 1 than zeroI don't know the ins and outs of how this works, but couldn't they pursue both Ament and others at the same time?
So how many more will we take for the portal?I don’t think that’s accurate simply based off our continued pursuit of Ament, if you don’t have enough money to be in the conversation then there’s no point in having those discussions with his camp that we are.
OK. Am I the only one concerned that we don't have a significant back to the basket scorer on this team. I feel like last year that was our biggest problem. If we had a good low post scorer, then it would have helped to open up more open shots from the 3pt line. It feels like we are heading down the same path this year. That is why I think it is critical to get a player like Alvaro or someone else like Marcus Johnson who has a true post-up game.Go for it
We have 2 this year: Estrella and Carey.OK. Am I the only one concerned that we don't have a significant back to the basket scorer on this team. I feel like last year that was our biggest problem. Carey will be a part of that formula. A healthy Estrella would too.OK. Am I the only one concerned that we don't have a significant back to the basket scorer on this team. I can't imagine the 5th year returnees are coming back to play for free. Gainey, and especially ZZ could clean up on the open market. And all that is assuming they get eligibility, which feels like less than a 50% chance, atm. An 8-man rotation is razor thin to start a season. Gillespie, Rice, Freeman, Okpara, Carey, Estrella, Phillips, Boswell doesn't inspire confidence when Estrella is a major question marks, Phillips nursed a shoulder injury, and Boswell has miles to go from a development standpoint. That leaves us relying on freshmen beyond that group, and none of those guys are surefire, immediate plug and play guys.We will have a solid 7 man rotation with those pick ups, plus the possible 5th year return players. I don't see us needing much more.
