2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Portaling is a drug. You ain't quittin' that easy. We know you'll be back for a taste.
I think the reason why I’m less engaged is because we kind of know who we’re probably gonna get. (Budd & Freeman)

Usually BTO doesn’t mention names unless there’s something there, and we usually end up getting them. I’m probably an idiot for thinking that, but oh well.

Another reason is…I know whoever we get will be good, so whatever 🤷🏿‍♂️

Edit: Oh and I’ve been traveling a little bit as well, so I’ve tried staying off the internet to focus on my family!

Just highlights how many of those conference awards are about best teams instead of best players. DK for example was on a Northern Colorado team that finished 8/10 in conference standings and 12-20 overall that year.
North Dakota is 6/10 and finished 12-21 overall this year

Also I don't think Treysen is a Grant Nelson clone at all. Nelson is 6'10" for one, and lead North Dakota State & the conference in rebounding his last year there while also being a top 5 scorer in his league.

Other than both being from North Dakota and the Summit League they seem pretty different as players.
Right, nothing like Nelson,, who is 6'11

Chaz is from Nashville.
I know where he is from, but he still turned down much more money. Lots of people would turn down their state school for a lot more money. Kentucky offered more and isn't a lot different distance wise from Nashville.

Agree. Lots of people would choose the money. Chaz Lanier didn’t…in large part because he wanted to play for his home state school. That’s the point.

Lanier has stated multiple times how much it meant to play at his home state school. That was a huge factor in UT’s favor with him that will not be a factor in UT’s favor for a kid from the Dakotas.

I'd be a bit surprised if we pursued a big man unless there is a belief that Estrella (rSO), Phillips (JR), or Okpara (SR) is out after the season ends. You add Dewayne Brown to that mix, as well. Someone with HA-H's stat line is going to expect sizeable minutes, I'd assume. I guess it's possible you convince him that JPE and Okpara work exclusively at the 5 spot and Brown (probably a 5, as well) is a year away.

Estrella might be most effective at the 4.

I think we’ll look for an Igor type replacement fwiw

Yeah we desperately need to spend NIL money on positions 1-3

I agree, more of a point forward/stretch 4 type. I've not watched this kid play a single minute of ball. Maybe he's that kind of player. Initially, I didn't think so based on his limited attempts from 3, but then I noticed he only played 12 games this year, and 19 the year before. Is he injury prone? Is that a wise investment, if so? And I'm just asking that in a general sense as things to consider, not that you suggested otherwise.

No clue on that guy, not a name I’ve heard at all to this point

Not that I want to flood the board with threads, but I wonder if it might make sense to create 2 separate transfer portal threads. One with Tennessee interest confirmed. One with general transfer news. Didn’t we do something like that last year?

Otherwise, we’re about see about 25 posts a day in about 2 weeks with every single On3 portal tweet hit in here.

Eaglestaff was 2/6 from field, 2ft, for 6 points in 36 minutes in loss in Summit League tournament. Did watch Jasai Miles highlights; does look like Chaz twin, very active, aggressive, plays above rim…like his play.

I think BTOs intent for this one was that it was for transfers where there was known UT interest. It’d be great if it could stay that way rather than be a repository for news or wishcast for every player who had recorded a D1 stat this year.

Maybe those go in “Around the NCAA”, it’s why I said in my OP I would post names affiliated with Tennessee, assumed this thread would be for Tennessee targets
