We plan to hold off until we have the budget to compete with his second NBA contract. By not signing anyone else and selling flower seeds door to door, we will be able to afford him in six years when he crosses 200 pounds. Until then, everyone hold tight. We’ll also be implementing literacy tariffs on Alabama and Mississippi which will be HUGE. For now, we have six players who love it here and that’s enough. Im having a uniform making party Saturday. Bring your orange flower sacks!Apparently it’s been a stalemate between the Vols and Ament.
Neither can gain the upper hand in a best of 3 rock, paper, scissors match. We will back next week once all of the portal guys have committed elsewhere and give you more info on this recruitment.
Looks like this could drag into the summer.

Morning SF update? When should we expect Rice tomorrow? We plan to hold off until we have the budget to compete with his second NBA contract. Can you put me down for 4 packs of hydrangea seeds? We plan to hold off until we have the budget to compete with his second NBA contract. Arceneaux is a good player and just needs the opportunity for more MPG. I could see him really thriving in the Tennessee "system" and taking on a similar career arc as Gainey did for you guys.I know everyone won't agree, but I really like Terrence Arceneaux from Houston. Wouldn't be upset if he landed at Tennessee
I didn't take it that way, just conveying that Carey seems like a guy that can provide some improvement in the post scoring department even though he is a little undersized. It would be great to have another 7 footer that can back people down, as well, though.I was agreeing with you. Grant absolutely was a post player at Tennessee. I was just saying that his physical limitations prevented him from playing that role beyond college. I didn't mean for it to be a qualifier that ran in contrast with your opinion though.

I wasn’t asking about committing, I just wanted to know if it was known when he would arrive on campus. You're "new" here so let me just share the ground rules.
No one knows when or if players are going to commit until they do. Some hear that things are going well, and that the team expects the player to commit on this day or that....but you won't get a firm date until the ink dries. With NIL and such it's made things far less certain for recruitments.
I can't say I agree that our basketball recruiting is better than football recruiting. We are routinely finishing around 8-12 in the country under Heupel. Barnes isn't anywhere near that. Now, Barnes seems to bring in a higher percentage of impact players from the portal than Heupel. I believe the biggest difference between the two is that one big time player in basketball has a much bigger impact than in football. The resources required between the two sports is not really an apples to apples comparison, either, considering the number of players on each roster. Right now, I would give Barnes the advantage from a coaching standpoint due to his coaching accomplishments but I think Heupel is perfectly capable as a coach.Pretty easy to understand why I’d feel we have a better chance to win in basketball than football. We recruit better in basketball, for starters. I also believe so far, IMO to be clear, Barnes has proven to be a far more capable coach than Heupel. That’s not to say Heupel hasn’t done a good job, but Barnes has won championships here, and for all his faults has proven to be a good post-season coach doing things we’ve quite literally never seen before in Knoxville for basketball. And that’s with having a fraction of the resources football does.

I think it's unfair to compare college football to college basketball. Much easier to focus on recruits for a 12-man roster (and deal with NIL issues), and the margin for error (losses) is much greater in basketball. Two completely different games, IMO.Pretty easy to understand why I’d feel we have a better chance to win in basketball than football. We recruit better in basketball, for starters. I think we land Rice after his visit. Do you have a feel on that one at all?Now that the dead period is over, we’ll see a flurry of visits, commitments and lists of a player’s potential destinations. It’ll inevitably be a ride with some euphoria and some disappointment. This is when many question the plan and the outcome. The coaches have proven that they’re good at this. We should be hopeful, but realistic. It’s a Wild West environment right now with the highest prices ever. We have support to be in lots of battles and reserves to meet unique opportunities. That’s been made clear to staff. It won’t always go our way. We’re the 33rd ranked basketball program in enterprise value, but we punch in the top ten. Because one guy is visiting and another is visiting somewhere else, it doesn’t mean we aren’t trying to get that player too. Nothing new this morning. Enjoy the ride. Keep the torches dry for now. Hopefully we’ll get some dudes and field another great team.
I commented on this yesterday. Wednesday night we drafted paperwork in preparation for his visit. That is usually a very predictive sign. Yesterday Trilly reported a 3mm offer from Nova. I trust his reporting, but think that offer might have nuances that make it less than what it seems at face value. We aren't going to spend 3mm or anywhere near that, but will do everything we can to sign him. I think most people think our range here would be near 1.2-1.7mm. Our case is always that we are building value beyond NIL, and are very dependable in delivering a simple, verifiable NIL offer. It works with many players, but not all. Prior to the Trilly news, I would've said 80%+. I don't know how to impair that based on a solid source, but data that doesn't completely make sense.I think we land Rice after his visit. Do you have a feel on that one at all?
