If either of them were getting a 5th year and in the portal from Southwest Tulsa Tech you’d need a change of pants but because they already played for Tennessee it’s “time to move on”

Anyone that says they don’t want a ZZ and JG PG duo is certifiably insane. How many times have we discussed about not having PG depth being a major issue as to why this team can’t get over the hump?

Now BTO is saying there’s a chance it may happen and that both players would be fine with it and you all are saying “Thanks but no thanks?” Lol. Come on.

Zeigler and Gillespie were 2 of the 3 best PGs in all of college basketball this year. Imagine them both on the same team?

“don’t want it” doesn’t fit either. Of course we’d all be here for it. Tripp pointed out the likelihood of that situation blowing up on us. Trying to see the soapbox your and the bto are on but it’s not close to same as a quote here’s the keys then bringing back a pg that averages 35+ minutes

It’s probably not likely if it’s being mentioned…I’m mostly just venting because like some posters have said, they COULD’VE had convos regarding both of them coming back and all playing together. If they don’t mind, cool..no brainer.

But with the portal, the Nico situation, I just have a little PTSD.

Everyone saying they would rather have ZZ/Gainey over Gill/Rice is a totally fair take, but I’m taking Gillespie and Rice solely because they will both have multiple years. Since we like playing hypotheticals around here, let’s say we lose Rice and Gillespie because ZZ and Gainey comes back….well we’re right back in this same situation next season portaling for multiple guards.

If I had to take one player out of those 4, I’d obviously take ZZ all day, everyday and twice on Sunday, but collectively, give me Gill and Rice.

I’m just amazed their post had so many likes not coming close to the actual point. Give me Z over them all too. But the situation is not as easy as those two post lead to believe. Imo

I think they feel like Zeigler & Gainey are more likely to be a part of next years team than not as of today, but they’re constructing the roster as if they aren’t to be safe.

Nah, there's a very small chance they rule guys get that 5th year, but definitely not more likely than not.

Gillespie isn’t coming here to share the PG position. He wants to be the man.

Dude is trying to improve his already good defense and get his draft stock even higher.

I have to say the same. ZZ and Gainey had their chances, and I appreciate everything they gave us, but it's time to see what some new blood can do for us.

Meh. In today’s landscape even if we land Gillespie/Rice we could very well be portaling against next year as other teams pursue them.

To be fair, isn’t it common knowledge Gillespie didn’t originally come to Tennessee because he didn’t want to sit behind Zakai? Does anyone think he would have transferred to Tennessee this year if ZZ was only a junior and returning for his senior year?

Maybe, but based on what we know, it’s not a stretch to think that Gillespie expects to be the starter at PG. It could be possible that he would be OK with sharing PG duties, but it seems inconceivable to think that a PG of his caliber would transfer here to be a back up.
