I would definitely take Ament if we were an NBA team drafting him and knowing we would have him for 3 years to develop that potential. But in a 1 year rental of an 18 year old, I think whoever lands him is not going to see hardly any of that come to fruition and he'll have an underwhelming year comparative to his cost, then go to the draft. If he were a grown man beast like Cooper Flagg, that's different, but he doesn't seem like that kind of a player to me.

They weren't saying that in terms of the resources. They were saying they are aggressively pursing them all, not sacrificing one for a priority of another. This was in response to people saying that they're sitting on their hands waiting for Ament. Of course it would be great to have them all but I don't see that happening. Well, the Rice visit to USC tells me this is trending in the wrong direction. I’m not concerned, I think we’ll field a good team next year, but if we miss on Rice and Freeman, I’m not sure where we turn for help.

I think this is a false binary choice. Everything we have heard from the people in the know on this board is that we are aggressively pursuing all 3. Our staff is perfectly capable of recruiting more than one person at once. I’m sure Rice, Freeman, and Ament are all being made priorities right now.

It’s always so simple to just say “pay more” but our staff and collective have never demonstrated that they are simply going to put in the top bid for any player that we’re interested in. It’s not how we’ve built a roster and it’s not how Rick is going to build one in his final years.

Our staff is perfectly capable of recruiting more than one person at once. I’m sure Rice, Freeman, and Ament are all being made priorities right now.

It’s always so simple to just say “pay more” but our staff and collective have never demonstrated that they are simply going to put in the top bid for any player that we’re interested in. It’s not how we’ve built a roster and it’s not how Rick is going to build one in his final years.

The money for Ament is being funded by the big boy donors and is totally separate from the rest of the class. Not saying UT lands him, but him landing here doesn't mean we don't have money for other folks.
