2025 Transfer Portal

Coach Caldwell is one of the most successful coaches in WBB.
You can see how she took this team to the S16 in year 1.
Top 15 ranking in year 1.
Top HS recruiting class in year 1.
This is a winner folks, plain and simple.
The 21:30 mark is đź’Ż.
GBO.

I get what you’re saying that was an impressive interview. It also was not only honest but clearly factual dialogue between Mike Keith and Coach Caldwell. Actually I would say that despite the temperament of this forum there has never been a reason to
not feel good about this team/program heading into 2025-2026.
If you want to feel a little bit better about what is going on watch KC’s interview on the Mike Keith Show. Someone posted it on the News thread

I was referring to the - mark being at -21:30 remaining in the video. That’s what people see when playing/pausing the video but thanks for contributing to the discussion.
Really genius?? And, I disagree. Most people (who have sense, anyway) want to know where to start.

First, I loved the interview. Second, I’m not sure how much more info was gleaned from that interview than what we have heard on here. DeerPark stated a lot of what was said about the freshman and the thought process there. I think we all figured we would sign a transfer class, and anyone that Kim wanted would be a dawg. Did I miss something else? I guess for those worried that we wouldn’t sign any transfers that interviewed let them know we would.

Never been worried we wouldn't sign somebody. Last portal we knew who all the names were. This time we only know one maybe two. I do hope Coaches understand that freshmen are now just as much rented players as portal players are. They can be gone after year one. UCLA just lost every last one of the class they signed. I don't think it is a good idea to get invested in any player to much. From now on building a roster is a year to year activity.

This interview is very direct and filled with factual dialogue. Tennessee as we’ve seen according to Charlie Crème early rankings is set to enter the 2025-2026 season as a Top 10 team. The portal class and incoming freshmen will be inserted into this program and season to build on the great success for year 1. The current players as we’ve seen recently are certainly poised to build on the success from year 1.
Also one thing that stood out, the confidence that Coach Caldwell has in her eyes is at an all-time high. She isn’t going into year 2 viewing herself as an underdog. She is comfortable in her identity as a coach and person that believes this team will compete to advance to the Elite 8 or Final 4 on the road to winning a National Championship.
Most coaches say this I know that’s what we’ll hear from some.
CKC has a mission and vision to get there.

Watching that interview that doesn’t sound like a coach that has any worries about what she’s getting via the portal. In fact it sounds to me like she already knows what she’s getting.

New world. I wouldn’t want that headache. There seem to be a few teams who are mostly immune that usually maintain most of their rosters like UConn and SC. Promise of championships and final fours can work wonders. There are a few others that usually keep most everyone they want like LSU and Texas while not so gently making room for the ones they want to add. However, the majority of coaches and teams are going to experience re-recruiting every year. Even UCLA, USC, and ND are showing cracks.

And 97 points a game is certainly a way to obtain those goals on her mission. I’m very impressed and I wouldn’t bet against her.

Trying to remember the date she said didn't want to see the staff for a while. Guess I will rewatch cause that dated means portal should be wrapped up.

I agree to some extent. I think it's unrealistic to expect a large freshman class like ours will end up staying put and together for their entire 4 years these days. At the same time, a lot of these freshmen transferring seem to be searching for playing time (e.g., the entire UCLA class). So sure, if you recruit over them and don't allow them time on court to develop, then yeah, you're going to lose some/a lot.

Here's a point about playing time. It's often pointed out that UConn, being in the Big East, plays a very easy schedule compared to teams in the top four conferences. But that doesn't seem to hurt them in March and April when they seem to hit their stride.

The advantage for UConn in recruiting and retention of good players in the current environment is that they can deliver on playing time promises. It's easy when you know you're going to beat most of the teams on your schedule by 20 or 30 points. This lets you rest your starters and satisfy the other players playing time expectations. Then, come tournament time, you can shorten the rotations and make the Final Four consistently.

Teams in the SEC, and to a lesser extent, the other major conferences, will never be able to do this if they want a chance to win enough conference games to earn a decent seed in the Tourney.

If you're a good coach and can recruit good or very good players and keep them for four years or more you can develop them into excellent players who play smart and hard. Add a superstar or two and you've got a consistently championship-caliber team.

Thank God.
It makes sense since she was at the bottom of the totem pole. Not bad on 3's, can drive to the basket, good rebounder. Her problem was there were too many players ahead of her, and when she got her chance at the end of games it seemed she was rushing shots and trying to make an impression in the little time she had. I believe she can be a pretty good player for some team out there. I wish her luck, seemed like a good kid and teammate.
