Call me crazy. I’d rather have this player than Latson. Somehow I don’t think Latson fits this system. I think she wants bigger scoring numbers than she’s likely to put up in this system, esp w Coop to share shots with. But Deng seems she’d fit great, has an incredible motor and work ethic. Tho of course the last thing we need is another 6’0” guard.

Thing is, when Coach Caldwell started at Tennessee, she was quoted as saying if she could, she would fill the roster with all guards. She is looking for Speed, agility and Athletism. Yes she picked up Spearman and Latham, but they are not your typical posts, they have everything I just mentioned. Everyone is saying we got to have two big posts, but I don't see that happening, unless they have skill set enough to play out on the perimeter, shoot the 3 and run the floor. A Clara Strack type I think she would take, but the Regan Beers and Gracie Merckle types I don't think are high one the wish list for her coaching style...

I think the players we need are Lattimore transfer out of Virginia and Williams out of Wisconsin. We have plenty of guards perimeter players. Prawl, Civil, Whitehorn, Hurst, the Pauldos, Cooper, and Boyd all need to play. That is seven players that need at least 15 minutes to over 20 minutes for some. Were just locking up their minutes with another guard. Were really losing more games this season because of rebounding than guard play. Adding two players like Lattimore and Williams gives you a lot more reboudning power and allows more aggressive play as you have 20 fouls in the post. Give me those two players ready to go just think Prawl, Civil, and the twins are going to be impact players to the extent that we will be fine with them as freshmen playing a 15 to 18 minute role.

I didn't even consider Wynn and Ace who will be players that will find it hard to get minutes next season cause all these freshmen can play.

Who wouldn't want Whitehorn, Latson, Cooper, Spearman and best available post to close out a 2 point game with 2 minutes to go ? I really like all the freshman coming in but there freshman. And I think we really need 2 post to contend with the larger teams. I would really like to see it work out. Hope CKC gets what she wants ! GLV

If Latson goes to SC Fulwiley will transfer I suspect. Watkins I think will transfers regardless. Have a feeling she is gonna want to start over.

Look it could happen but Tennessee focus shouldn’t be on Latson. I believe there could be mutual interest but ultimately both sides have better options. TN fits her playing style but SC doesn’t at all and in my opinion after seeing her play in person this isn’t a move a player in Latson’s position going into her senior season can risk.
Also, will people cut out the “they are still freshmen talk” when referencing the incoming commits?
It’s hypocritical to constantly hound the coaches every year to bring in elite HS talent then expect them to sit them down or put a cap on these players and limit their minutes for portal players that aren’t a need.
These same portal players played for teams as freshman or sophomores etc. and that’s how now as juniors, seniors, or grad transfers they built their profile even those coming from losing programs to being coveted via the portal because they were allowed to gain experience and play as underclassmen. That’s how you develop players let them gain experience. Our freshmen will be in possibly one of the best situations if all things stay intact and they won’t be forced to carry the team.
It’s really ironic now how people have completely shifted their focused to wanting every decent guard or shooting specialist that enters the portal at the expense of elite young talent .

Tennessee is bringing in 3 McDAAs in addition to 2 Top 50 recruits and potentially returning three of their top scorers from a S16 team. They have built a core to win now based on the current resume and future by no stretch of the imagination does this staff think as typical fans do.

We are losing a lot of game experience. Relying on Freshman is fools gold. We need an experienced guard like Latson to keep the freshmen calm and not panicking when a team makes a run on us. Latson is a take. All day, everyday.

You all go ahead and focus on that while CKC gets her team set for the S16 prior to bringing in an elite recruiting class that will contribute from Day 1.

Agree were looking for post like Williams, Weimar, Lattimore, etc can run the floor but still are strong rebounders and scorers, shot blockers and defenders.

There’s not much movement if any that I’m grasping from current players that makes me speculate they will enter the transfer portal.
That’s just my two cents but from the players to their parents even on social media you have just about all of them absolutely talking about Tennessee as the best decision they could’ve made when transferring.
I guess this will always be part of the conversation even when there’s nothing there substantial to draw the conclusion of a pending transfer.

Relying on freshmen to grow within a program is no longer a thing. The way the portal is set up freshmen don’t last 4 years at one school anymore. Veryyyy rare will that happen going forward imo as well.
