2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Yea, I would unfortunately pump the breaks on their demise, supposedly they’re gonna kill it internationally. Rumors they’re gonna get Montero which would be the equivalent to adding the clear #1 player in the portal, All-American type. Also thought to be a frontrunner for Suigo, a projected first round 7’3” Aday Mara clone. They’re looking to add like 7-8 from overseas, essentially Illinois Jr. route.
Illinois has been the only program that has consistently brought over a bunch of internationals and made it work; we had a few internationals this year and they were absolute flops. Point being that right now the international player market is still like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get!

Comparing Montero to Ethan Burg or Massamba isn't a fair fight.

@bleedingTNorange Basilio mentioned in his blog today that Tennessee is looking to potentially add two additional big men. Mentioned Ibe, another college transfer, and that they are eyeing an international guy as possibilities.

Can you confirm? Any thoughts you can share?
I think they’re kicking the tires on it, but right now I think it’s more likely they just add 1 than 2, but we’ll see.

Any concern over Ibe visiting Virginia? His commitment kinda felt like a formality, but the more time that goes by, the more likely it feels he ends up somewhere else. Maybe I'm projecting.

I don’t think it’s a dead deal, but him taking this visit definitely causes some hesitancy, not sure Tennessee feels the need to “play the game” for someone like him.
Is there any word on if whoever they are looking at overseas would be expected to contribute? Or even just generally if they feel like the big they'll bring in will be depth or a live option for serious minutes?

Feel like they've spent big on the roster, could see them being happy with how things are (as am I) and buying low cost on some upside/depth OR alternatively committing to continue to spend and bringing in a pro or something...

It’s not cut and dry, the staff will still use their model all the way to the end. If a guy they values $3m is available for $2m they’ll have interest, on the flip side if a guy they value at $500k is wanting $1.5m they won’t take him just to fill the roster.

There is nothing about “international” being synonymous with “unpredictable”. It’s just a matter of committing resources to in-person scouting. It’s a lot easier to go to Peach Jam than it is to go to Nigeria or Serbia. Many teams are developing international scouting networks. Illinois was first, but will not be the only or the last.

Or be like Mark Pope and go to Israel just to see the guy sign with LSU.

Tommy Lloyd at Arizona and Randy Bennett at St.Mary's now at ASU have been very successful recruiting and succeeding with International players...
