2029 recruiting

I’m sure she’s a nice player. Recruiting a 7th grader in any sport shouldn’t be allowed. Go to camps and talk Junior year.

Way to be a buzz kill 😂 This young lady is excited about the opportunities that are ahead for her and nothing wrong with her getting on campus (on her own dime) and talking to coaches.

I'm sure there will be lots of camps in her future also.

But since it is allowed to talk to a 7th grader if one hits you up and she shows potential nothing wrong with getting it on the schedule.

In 2029 we will be playing all machines. So those we are recruiting will be the programmers. Children will be left alone at that point, and will be allowed to grow up and enjoy playing and being children.

You've obviously never worked with 7th grade girls
There is a transition that happens in the 6/7th grade for girls that only people who have worked with them can see

boys are "boys" from day one and change to become men (at least most of them do) (one transition)
Girls are different
They are kids, until nature slaps them in the face with the fact that they are girls, then they become women (Two transitions)
most young girls are girls from the gitgo, but I'd say for about 25% of them it doesn't register that they are girls until they have to acknowledge it by either nature, or chronological aging

I'm sure I will get negative and defensive feedback on this,,but I am 43 years working with over 2000 girls/women and my insight is learned, not supposed

That said, a good coach can judge the potential of staying power and potential at this age
BUT NOT before!

That may work for the casual fan. Having a female D1 athlete who had her first offer before she entered HS gives a different perspective. She was also part of the class that had the NCAA step in and implement 9/1 of Junior year. Coached numerous female athletes at that age, majority currently playing D1/small D1 with a few D2/NAIA. So again, male or female no kid needs to be recruited in middle school in any sport. I’ll say again, I’m sure she is a fine player.

*blink* 2029? 20 ... 29?

Also, to be more specific, I am not talking about whatever the team is doing, that's their business. I mean speculating on kids who are 6 years away from making commitments. Something's weird about all of this. Can't say I'm a fan of it. Feels like nothing good can come from having these threads hanging over our heads for the next SIX years. With all the negative comments people cough up, and the rumors, and all that stuff? I don't like that idea at all.

girls basketball... their height is what they are in 7th and 8th grade usually.. recruiting is different in women's basketball compared to men's basketball and football.

How are coaches expected to build relationships if they don't start getting to know these players early?

Who says she's even been offered a scholly, yet? That prob comes a lil later.

Same as all the other sports that manage to do it and sign elite kids.

And, risk losing out on players like Rhyme Howard who said TN didn't engage til late in the game which, in her mind ,was a slight.

Plus, these kids were invited to Market Square Madness and they chose to accept. It's just a visit.

Kids can come all they want, camps, events, games etc on there dime. Just no coach contact/conversations until JR year. Miss out you miss out but the playing field is the same for all sports, basketball should be no exception. If the worry is relationships then the wrong people are doing the talking.

You have to be someone who has lived this
I have coached 6-foot girls as young as 11
Once had a 14u team with one 6'4" and one 6'5"

and kids are savvy with social media,,,very savvy
And rightly so
SO if you don't start seeing them early,,,you will be LATE
A 7th grader is still a 7th grader no matter the spin. A reason why softball stopped until 9/1 of Junior.
Boys, yes, girls,,,,Never
The transitional age for girls can happen as early as 10+ and can be as late as 12-13.

what I mean by "transitional age" is this:

Boys transition from "boy-to-man",,,Most males, from day one are 100% boys,,,never a question

Girls have two transition "kid-girl-woman (when they are young and before nature shocks them with the difference,,,they will do anything a boy will do and have just as much fun). It is during the girl-to-woman early years that the individual makes her lifestyle choices

And if she chooses basketball, that early, she will appreciate anyone who validates
her decision

They can change all they want physically/mentally/spiritually etc , the point is not recruiting kids in 7th grade in any capacity. They are in 7th grade.
