Probably so but I really don’t think recruits look at it that way. They just see Cal averages 2-3 first round picks a year (idk what the number is, just spitballing) and are impressed with that
Bingo. The perception is very much surface level for these kids. Some people's hate for Cal and/or Kentucky just clouds their better judgement.

And those kids may very well have gone 1st round with or without Cal, but the perception is that Kentucky+Calipari+5*=lottery pick, and it's why they continue to land so many of them every year. You'll have some duds who just don't put in the work, or buy into the system, or mesh well with other superstars like BJ Boston and Archie Goodwin. Is that a Calipari problem or a player fit problem? No one here believes that Cal is some elite developed of talent. What he has is reputation, connections, and the backing of arguably one of the two most recognizable college basketball brands in the country in Kentucky.

Appears Barnes is about to get 2 and Cal 1 - the current batch of recruits don’t care what happened when they were 9 years old
Doesn't that seem extremely myopic? Basing it off one year. I get that it fits the running narrative much better, but it isn't an accurate portrayal.

And maybe these kids don't care about what happened when they were 9, but given that Isaiah Jackson is about to be Cal's 30th 1st-round pick since arriving at UK, it probably would behoove them to look at his overall track record rather than one outlying year.

Same here, and after watching Isaiah Jackson play 2 games, I knew he was the player UK had.
As did I. Before the last game against UK, I said Jackson was the one player that scared me. A couple people threw up his stats and ridiculed me, but u didn't and Isaiah had like 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and UK spanked us.

Probably so, but we live is a society where most folks don’t have longer term perspectives. Obviously my statement was a bit tongue in cheek but there is a degree of truth in it

From Basilio's blog this morning:

"Another 5 Star Hoops Commitment Coming For The Vols? Cason Wallace a 6-3 175 pound wing from Dallas, Texas is expected to become Tennessee's first official commitment in the upcoming days. Wallace is the #15 player in America and would keep Tennessee's five star streak alive in four consecutive classes. "

I've heard nothing of him being close to committing. Not sure if it's just foreshadowing on his part and there's no real timeline to a commitment or if he's internally expected to commit to Tennessee soon.

I know we’re in a good position with Wallace, but I find it hard to believe Basilio would be the one to break this news. Who knows. I still think Edwards will be the first official commitment to the 2022 class.

That's my belief as well. I'd love to be wrong. Would be big to get him in the boat early.

Maybe Barnes surprises us all and persuades Wallace to hop on the wagon early.

Everybody expects Edwards to be our first commitment but that may not be the case.

Either way, it’s amazing we’re recruiting like this at a high level.

Exactly my thoughts, too. I'd be ecstatic with either Wallace or Edwards being the first to jump in the boat.

Would love to get Wallace in the boat, I wouldn’t call it a formality but Tennessee has been in very good shape and felt very good about their chances with him. Good players wanna play together, landing him and then hopefully Edwards soon and those 2 can work on Mitchell.
