22-year-old reported missing after boyfriend returns home from cross-country trip without her

Yeah, that was my first thought. They were stressing each other out trapped in a van together, they already had some kind of domestic dispute, and he up and left her. Potentially in a really compromised situation given the remote locations they were visiting.

He probably thought he could drive back home and get out of it...we'll see.

It seems the dispute the police settled involved some level of him threatening to just ditch her, and he did just that at least.

If he did just leave her, not sure what the legal options are there honestly. I think she owned the van he drove off in, so maybe they can charge him with theft? Him not talking is infuriating to her family, but it makes sense from a legal standpoint as his lawyer has articulated. They were coming for him first regardless of him helping or not.

Reckless endangerment maybe? I'm not sure.

I'm starting to wonder if that girl has some mental issues and might have just gone off on her own somewhere or worse. Something seems off about her. Her facial expressions, the way she speaks about herself, The way her eyes dart around, just her mannerisms overall. Something isn't right there. The guy doesn't seem that suspicious to me from just this video. He just seems like a typical aloof millennial.

This story is INSANE & no one's talking about it.
22-year-old Gabby Petito left on a cross-country road trip with her fiancé Brian in July — no one has heard from her since 8/25.
Brian came home alone. He immediately lawyered up & won't talk to police.

I don't know why you said no one's talking about it. It's been the top banner news story on Fox News website for a couple of days at least, and it's all over social media.

She definitely wasn’t right in the head.

She was off for sure. But if shes been abused it could be nervous ticks because she thinks shes going to get in trouble if she says the wrong things.

I saw someone, mention rumor of her being involved in a double murder. That could be it as well, if they did it the BF may have offed Gabby because she was going to crack.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but this is about the worst take I can imagine. Guy goes on cross country trip with fiancé and returns without her and refuses to tell girl’s family what he knows about her whereabouts. His actions scream suspicious!

Those cases appear to be entirely coincidental. The women expressed concern about a creepy guy camping near them with no mention of a woman with him. Plus the timing seems to not line up.

I read one article, I can try and find it again at some point. Which stated Gabby and Brain were in the area the night before when the murders took place.

Yeah, there seems to be conflicting info. I read somewhere else that she was a potential suspect in those murders.

Well, FWIW, I would say the trend amongst Gen Z'ers to live in a van has left me very unsurprised at the outcomes. Evidently these people are unfamiliar wtih Chris Farley's amazing motivational speaking career.

totally unrelated, I noticed another headline today about searchers found a woman hiker that froze to death years ago. If she wanted to freeze to death, she did everything perfect. news was from Sept 1, but it just caught up with me today.

I think he’s certainly involved in some way or another, obviously. But that body cam video does atleast leave a few questions.

What if she’s the psycho, did something to herself and he looks guilty no matter what? I don’t think this is as open and shut as it seems in the surface.

You know what else isn't right? Showing up back home without her and refusing to talk to her family or work with authorities.

I mean maybe, but just showing up back at home and refusing to talk to anyone sure as hell doesn't help him look any less guilty. I seriously don't think that's the approach I'd take if I was innocent.

Possible scenarios:
1. He kills her and heads home. He's not going to tell authorities or her family.
2. She kills herself and he heads home without telling her family or authorities.
3. She runs off and hasn't be heard from since. He heads home without telling her family or authorities.
4. She overdoses on something. He heads home without telling her family or authorities.
5. She has a fall on the hiking trail. He heads home without telling her family or authorities.
6. He leaves her stranded and she hasn't been heard from since. He heads home without telling her family or authorities.

None of those scenarios look good for her or for him.

I watched that whole bodycam video and honestly they both seem like good kids. She has some anxiety issues but some of my favorite humans on earth have anxiety issues. Brains don’t always play nicely with their hosts.

Here’s the thing though. As much as I hope I’m wrong, the fact that he drove all the way back to Florida alone and clammed up likely means she’s dead. If she’s simply missing, there’s no way he does that. Even if he’d had enough of the relationship he’d at least help find her, whether for her sake, her family’s sake, or just being a decent human. Again, he seems like a generally good guy.

So I have to think he’s knows she’s dead, likely witnessed it, possibly had a hand in it. Even if she did it herself or he was responsible in a self-defense situation, it could easily be a case where he knows he could easily be rung up for it, or at least have his life ruined. Or she went at him and he overreacted. Or he wasn’t a good guy after all, got all raged up and killed her. Who knows.

I think something happened that ended up with her dead, with or without his active involvement, and he called his family because he was freaking out and didn’t know what to do. Because of the legal tussle days before, they knew he was in dire straits if he reported it and told him to drive straight home and don’t breathe a word. The family attorney likely called him on the road and reiterated that.

The fact that he didn’t call local authorities tells me there was no help to be gained, she wasn’t badly injured, she wasn’t missing, she was clearly dead. So he calls trusted loved ones first instead. Even if she took her own life while he watched, the domestic violence incident throws suspicion his way. Same with an unfortunate accident. And of course if he straight up did it.

Holing up and not talking to police is a self-protective tactic that you only use if there’s a fatal outcome you already know about. Makes me sad, again they seem like good kids.

Seems like a good kid, but there's a high probability he murdered his GF......

I think our definition of "good kid" might be a little different.

Guilty of what though? I get it, but they technically have no crime.
Without the body, they have no murder case, but, I thought I read somewhere that the van belonged to the girl. If that's true, I'd get him for grand theft auto. That would at least allow them to get him in the system and possibly work him for any critical info.
