SEC really needs to go to a 20 game conference schedule. Play all 15 teams plus 5 that can either rotate on an annual basis or make them “permanent home/away series”. Either way, needs to be 20 games and eliminate two lower level games from the schedule. The Big 10, ACC, and Big East have all been playing a 20 game schedule and the Big 12 will switch to a 20 game schedule this year. Get with the times Sankey…
Not sure what it is with Sankey/the whole SEC in their reluctance to play MORE conference games in basically every major sport. Agree with you on 20-game SEC schedule for men's and women's hoops, and football should play 9 SEC games. Hell, I even wouldn't mind seeing more SEC games in baseball and softball.

Right, but we played them only once in 2023 and that was at TBA. Then we got them home and home in 2024. So 2025 should be in Tuscaloosa, it would seem. If they alternated by game, why did we play them in TBA in 2023, then again in TBA in 2024 before playing them in Tuscaloosa?
Weird things like that pop up, especially when you add new teams into the conference scheduling. It seemed to most be a factor when we'd get the rotating teams into the schedule to play twice. The year prior to and after the year we play that team twice don't align with alternating home-away.

In 2022, we played at Mississippi State. Then in 2023 we played them twice. But this past season we played them away again. We got Auburn at home in 2022 and 2024 while playing them twice in 2023. We played A&M twice last season. In 2023 we played at their place, and we're scheduled to go there this coming season.

It’s because they want to have extra compensation from ESPN if they are getting more quality games. From the SEC’s viewpoint, why would we give you more quality content to broadcast without you compensating us for those games? ESPN’s viewpoint, we just gave you a new deal that is taking effect this season with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma so why would we turn right back around and give you even more money? Always about the 💰

JMO, but I’d rather see a game with against a good ACC or big 10 team versus a second matchup against an SEC except for Kentucky. I’d personally find it more interesting, but I may be in the minority.

I’m with you. I wish the sec, big10, big12 and acc would do a round robin challenge in season. So the acc/sec have a series one weekend while the big10/big12 does theirs. Then just rotate to switch the conferences up. Take those three games and then play all sec teams once. It’ll never happen and probably realistically can’t with the conferences having different numbers of teams but in a perfect world that would be a great way to pad everyone’s nonconference schedules

With a 20 game conference schedule you can still have those games. Rick Barnes is always going to schedule tough OOC. It’s only taking away 2 of the more meaningless games vs lower level competition. The 15 plus 5 format would guarantee you play everyone in the conference every season and then guarantee a home/away series with every team every 3 years. 20 games would be perfect for our 16-team SEC.

We play Syracuse in the SEC/ACC challenge. Honestly, what a boring and awful matchup. We played them last year in Maui and they aren’t even a top team in the ACC. Our fans deserved a better matchup than this after going to UNC.

Also, UNC gets back to back home games in the challenge??? How is that fair?

Yeah not sure why vols wouldn't get Duke, Clemson, NC state, Wake, or even Miami. Syracuse is middle of the pack ACC team right now.

We already play Miami this year, so that’s understandable. But Syracuse is just a boring choice. Wake would have been interesting. Virginia would have been preferred, too.

Seeing them pair UNC and Duke with Auburn and Alabama tells us something about what people see as the hot stories in the SEC this year. At least, that's my take on it. No idea what to make of Tennessee getting Syracuse. It certainly does feel dismissive, though.

Forgot Miami in New York, Virginia is in our Bahamas tourney so they are off. But Duke, NC state, Clemson, or Wake would have all been way better.

Maybe a semi homecoming game for ZZ? Otherwise hard pass.

Edited to add didn't realize it was a home game. Yeah not a fan of this, outside of it being a sure win.

Outside of Bama-UNC and Barn-Dook, these are all pretty weak

I suspect you will get your wish ... when we add 4 teams from the ACC ... if/when FSU wins in court.
