247 Takes Their Turn Ranking SEC QBs

Looks like they are weighing the rankings heavily off of potential.

A player like Driskel has upside in the same offense that got Duke to the ACC championship last season.

Everyone knows what Worley's upside is....little to none if you are being honest.

A SR QB who can barely beat out two underclassmen for the job-- neither of whom inspire confidence-- doesn't provide much ammo for a high ranking. Until he proves different, I think Worley's past performance puts him in the bottom quadrant. Some of the younger guys are rated higher based on potential. So far, Worley's hasn't played up to his... or maybe he has a lower ceiling. Still hoping he can pull a Crompton...

I would take Worldy over Allen and Towles but that speaks more about how bad Allen is and how unproven Towles is.

I mean Worley beat a top 15 team and had a top 10 team beat to till Jancek forgot what a blitz was and that is more than Allen or Towles can say, but he's not any better than average.

SEC Football: Ranking the Quarterbacks

13. Justin Worley, Tennessee- Worley has a good arm and won the Vols starting job thanks to his command of the offensive system, due to his starting experience. Tennessee has a lot to replace on the offensive line, though, and Worley is a quarterback you HAVE to protect because he isn’t mobile. Obviously, if Tennessee can protect him there is enough talent at receiver for him to be higher.

This is absolutely ridiculous IMHO. He's ranked lower than some QBs who have never taken a snap in the conference and who certainly don't have a win over an eventual top 5 team.

It worries me that you have an immobile qb behind an inexperienced o-line. That usually spells disaster in the SEC.

I agree but the same thing could be said about fans who put Jalen Hurd ranked higher than RBs that have played in the league. Just an example...... :peace:

Agree. UT fans like myself are very excited to see the 6'3 227lb 5 star Hurd perform. But fact is, I don't think you can rank him ahead of another RB who's already proven he can perform well in the league. Now, 5-7 games of solid performance and he's showing out like we all expect then we have a different story.

When the season is finished, Worley will be in the top 3 in yards passing. Just watch.

Good grief. Relax guys. It's just a random pre-season ranking.

If it were possible and you were Butch Jones how many of those QB's ranked ahead of Worley would you trade Worley for?

It also seems like they base judgement of the QB on what the offense as a whole is capable of. Which completely contradicts the individual rankings. It would be like saying AJ isn't any good because the defense sucks. Just think if NFL scouts used that same mind set. Teams would be drafted to teams to make teams.
Ya I don't credit this at all, due to the somewhat fluid qualifications of this ranking system. They don't like us anyway....

He's much more mobile than Bray, Manning, Clausen, Ainge.

People forget the O-Line may be entirely replaced, but they do have live game experience. I personally think this unit at O Line can be great as long as they work together. Each one brings a lot of talent and size to the table. I personally think were more capable of doing big things this season than people see.

I feel were going to creep up on some teams this season.

just my 2 cents.

Maybe they went back and read what Vol Nation said about him last year! No then they would have had him 16th.:salute:

Guys: You should know by now that all these preseason rankings of teams and players and units, whether nationally or by conference, are just cheap, meaningless fodder for sports websites and magazines. You think the people who compile these rankings actually know anything? It's just blather--like sports talk radio--and yet fans take it seriously. Don't waste time.

RIDICULOUS! ! ! Blake Simms doesn't belong in the top ten...and apparently Coker, who can't beat him out, doesn't either. I'll take my chances with Worley.

Driskel at number 3 is pretty bad. Florida might've made it to the Sugar Bowl two years ago but it wasn't because of him.

Vanderbilt at 14th sounds about right. I think they'll finish last in the East. You could probably flip Worley and Towles and it would be more accurate for the preseason, but I think Towles could be pretty good for UK in time. Allen ahead of Worley is a joke, too.
