Who you got Volnation?

They all have great resumes and would excellent coaches at TN...but they all have a couple downfalls as well.

Here are the pros and cons of each.

Mike Gundy
Pros
-Has the longest history of success as a head coach.
-Has taken a second/third tier program in a major conference to the top of that conference and sustained 5-6 yrs of good records
-Offensive genius
-Players coach
-4-2 Bowl record (fiesta bowl win last year)\
-Develops offensive players amazingly (QBs and WRs)
Cons
-Hasn’t recruited well (rankings wise, he obviously scouts well and develops players)
-No history in the Southeast
-Had pretty bad defenses some years

Charlie Strong
Pros
-Defensive minded coach, with a track record of good statistical D’s.
-Recruits the Southeast very well (I know his class isn’t great right now, but he has done very well for Louisville standards)
-Two Coordinating stops at major SEC programs (UF, USCe)
-Taken Louisville out of the dumps into BCS bowl in three years, albeit it in the easiest BCS conference
-Players coach
Cons
-Small head coaching history
-Never been a HC at a big time conference program
-Some question a few of his in game coaching decisions

Larry Fedora
Pros
-Great offensive mind
-Coordinated O at UF
-Recruited South East at UF, So Miss and UNC
-Took USM to 12 win season beating Sumlin lead Cougars in CUSA Champ game (team went 0-12 next year without him)
-Good first year at UNC with no bowl game to play for
Cons
-Very limited history as HC at a BCS level program
-Defense was terrible this year

Boy, that is three fairly equal choices. I like Fedora but my problem with him is that he doesn't need to bail out on UNC after only one year.

Gundy vs Strong...? Offense vs Defense. After seeing the season we just completed, I guess we need some defense. Charlie gets my vote.

Entirely too much lack of Jon Gruden in this thread IMO

That's because he is not a finalist for the position. Did you miss the memo that he removed himself from consideration on Friday?

It is a really tough choice but I think Strong may be my choice as well.

Hard to ignore Gundy's sustained success at OKSt w/ Oklahoma and Texas looming over him.

Strong BY A LONG SHOT AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE. Most QUALIFIED to coach in the SEC and knows what it takes. IMO!!!!!!! Go coach Strong to Tennessee!!!!!! Make it happen Hart!!!!

True...but that can be fixed with a competent DC.

My opinion is with all of these we are a settling, not a Dooley settle but still a settling. That said I voted Strong cause he's defensive minded and has SEC ties.

I'd be happy with any of those 3. It's hard to even make a decision between the three because I think they are all good coaches and they are all so different in their coaching and style of play. I guess if I had a gun to my head...I would choose Strong because he has turned a terrible program around quickly, he's a defensive minded coach, and he has recruiting ties in the southeast. But I would honestly be very happy with any of those three.

At this time I would prefer a defensive minded coach. Look at Alabama and LSU. Both are control the clock, running teams with a very good defense. They have done pretty well the last several years. However, I'm not sure these are the final 3 candidates or not. So many different twists and turns the past 7 days.

I voted Gundy but I am really not thrilled with any of these 3. If we had to get a coach from the big 12 that wasnt stoops.. I think I would prefer Briles.

-Some question a few of his in game coaching decisions

Regarding your cons against Strong: After going through the same thing with Dooley, this gives me the shivers.
