One time consultants came into a plant and increased lighting - performance and morale improved. Then they came in and took out some of the lighting - performance and morale improved. It went on, but the end result is that when things aren't working well and there is a perception that somebody is there to pay attention, performance and morale improve.

It happens often with a coaching change - you just have to be around long enough to see the pattern. I'm not sold on Smart either, but in another two or three years I could be convinced if this keeps up. A lot of UT fans were raving about McElwain early on - that FL got it right while we botched the hire; I guess with that kind of amnesia it's hard to get the thing about a coaching change induced bump before things settle in to mundane. Too many times you see what you want to see; now, let the beatings continue until morale improves.

There isn't any coach in the SEC that is worse than Butch. He's the absolute bottom of the barrel. Right now I would say that Mullen the 3rd or 4th best.
