LMAO... insinuating he doesn't coach. Watching his teams is watching exactly what results from really good coaching. You can despise him (I sure do) but do coaches circles around almost all his colleagues. It's not like he signs studs and then just rolls the ball out on the floor and says "go win girls."
No he doesn't, but then he really hasn't had to coach teams thin on the studs, for a good long while, either. So the emphasis on "coaching" will be even more prevalent than in recent years, if not recent decades. But then again, in Auriemma's corner, he has traditionally relied heavily on his most experienced players - and most dominating players when they haven't had the experience - and given his bench a moderate amount of minutes, so if he ends up with a thin roster and having to rely on 6-7 players playing a ton of minutes each game, well he's pretty much done that for years anyways.
And that has assisted his coaching, in making a number of his teams so efficient season after season: having 3-4 of his starters averaging 30+ minutes per game every year, with the 5th averaging 25-30 minutes, and letting his reserves play a lot of mop-up minutes, which once the conference schedule comes around can equal up to 15-20 minutes per game often. The talent level of his roster has allowed him to sort of play with house money in that regard. But we saw the shakiness of his team once it lacked solid PG play and solid rebounding depth in the post, and this season (and the next) may be more of the same. But Summitt had to coach a few of her NC teams to those titles: Geno should have to carry his share too.....
