How's that war on drugs going LG? Would be exactly the same if the government outlawed guns, no?

you just don't understand, if guns weren't around there would be no criminals, no crime and no death.

There are no easy answers to this problem, I would agree. And maybe its only because there have been so many recent and shocking incidents like this one, but I cannot help but feel that despite its difficulty this is a problem whose only solution ultimately calls for substantial decrease in the availability of guns, even initially to seemingly responsible people. They just so often seem to end up somewhere else. I see no way to avoid that.

How could a person be so close minded. Criminals will have guns whether they are legal or not. Why would you take guns away from the public when we would be totally mismatched otherwise.

I would tell that to the widows. Would you tell them that if guns were banned, no criminals would have them?

I'd tell them that less criminals would have them in the future, and so maybe some other families don't have to get this call, yes.

And yet he got one.

Wow, that's totally unusual.

Oh wait ...

You just contradicted your stance on this issue. According to the law these guys shouldn't have been able to acquire guns. Yet, somehow they got guns, so I'm sure depriving law-abiding citizens of their constitutional right to own firearms will end all violent crime.

you still haven't addressed knives. How about boards with nails in them? Shards of glass? Broken beer bottles? Seriously, we need the gov't to step in and save us

Like I said, its a tough problem to deal with but we cannot ignore it any longer. Too many of the guns sold to qualified people end up in the hands of unqualified people.

you are essentially blaming law-abiding citizens for the criminal acts of others. You don't see the problem with that?

so, to hell with the Constitution and the individual right to ownership of firearms.

How about the legal community stop making excuses for criminals. How about not letting rapists and child molesters out of prison after less than a year because some activist judge believes that a child molester is no longer a danger to society?

Tell that to the widows.

The problem is that you take it to a personal level. It is a very sad story. I hope the guys that did this get the full punishment allowed by law, but you are willing to cut everyones freedoms for the "good" of the few. This country was founded on guns, and the right for the citzens to bare arms. The right to bare arms protects all of your other freedoms. I would say it is the most imporant piece for checks and balances.

Not only does this proposal from LG go against obvious Constitutional Rights, but it also goes against common sense. Even if you outlawed weapons, criminals everywhere would still have them. Did criminals just fold up and give up when prohibition of booze came around? No, it actually gave them more power. This would just be another failed "war against drugs" in that we would be spending billions upon billions of dollars trying to enforce something that will never be eliminated. And as for the families of law enforcement, my heart hurts for them, but like those who answer the call for the military, they know the potential to not come home exists.
