30 minute suspension for Manziel

That miami investigation did screw them over pretty badly

Nonetheless, you're seeing this organization lose its grip. Cam Newton, Johnny M. If you're going to cheat make sure you have a product people want to see and everything will be ok.

Couldn't agree more. The big 5 (ACC, SEC, PAC12, BIG12, B1G) are going to secede and run things their way. College football has out grown the NCAA.

They'll get/make their own division where they can vote on rules and any issues without effect from the little guy schools, but they won't be breaking away or such

Read my other post; they tried changing their grip, specifically with their actions to Penn St and their investigation into miami...it left them in a far worse position than they previously were (actually read up on it if you get a chance; it's a trilogy of error...if I remember it correctly, they ended up trying to force out information, breaking the law by the manner in which they did such, and in the weeks following there was a mixture of cleaning house / workers fleeing for other jobs...)

They tried being drastic and giving themselves "emergency" (undefined) powers during the Penn State punishment and the later Miami investigation...it got them in a worse position than they were in previously

All they have been is a minimal hindrance to full blown corruption. Ironically the only time they can determine that is if its just so totally blatant they can't help see it yet pick & choose when they want to see it. Cam Newton was a no brainer. Johny Football not so much because he really doesn't need the money & the paper trail would be pretty transparent. The NCAA has turned into a business instead of an institution & that will be another reason for their downfall.

His name belongs to himself. This is America. If he wants to sell autographs then there should be nothing wrong with it. This is stupid

I agree with you. I want that rule abolished, and I want Bama's coaches to promise every recruit that they will receive $500k worth of autograph signings if they come to Alabama.

Well duh - they get that when they sign (one autograph) the letter of intent to play for Alabama

Why would people that can't write want to sign things that would be sold to people that can't read?

suspended for a half for a secondary violation? Seems good to me.. Idk what the fuss is. They couldnt prove he accepted money. They did prove that he signed autographs and knew they were going to be sold.

In that case everyone who signs autographs needs this suspension.

Not true. The didn't find him guilty of any violation, secondary or otherwise. They said he violated "the spirit of the bylaw," in that he didn't know the brokers were going to sell his signatures, but he should have known.

Same difference. The major argument is that he was only suspended for accepting so much money for his autographs, when in fact that is not the case.

Who is making that argument?

Everyone outside of College Station (and even those in CS who are able to be honest with themselves) believe that Manziel got paid, but I don't know of anyone arguing that that's why he got suspended. In fact, most folks, myself included, are arguing that he only got suspended for a half despite the fact that he got paid thousands of dollars.

My guess on the matter is that the NCAA does not want anyone to be able to sell their autograph for money because, if that's legal, then all every player has to do when they get to college is go to a booster's house, sign a picture, and be handed $20,000.

If you let it go for a $5 autograph, there's nothing to stop you from a $20k autograph.

As a fan of college football I'm insulted by the 30 minute suspension. Either punish him or don't. I don't care, but the suspension is a joke.
