Why the heck you asking us? Do we look rich to you? Does this look like a forum for richers?

You gotta go sign up for one of those fancy pants private Tennessee message boards what which cost big bucks. That's where the moneyed gentry is. Go ask them. Or - sign up, and pay, and then ask them.

And then come back and tell us what they say. And give me some money too.

He has to go pro imo. RBs don’t have that many years to make big money in the league. Also him getting drafted probably helps the program a lot as well. I’d love to see him play another year but it’s probably better for him to go pro.

Not many richers in here but plenty of jackasses.

Sampson will not improve his NFL stock a whole lot by coming back for another season.

if his draft prospect is high enough, he should consider going pro. NIL was not his dream growing up, making it to the NFL probably was. Either way, I wish him nothing but luck, i'll be a fan watching him.

With our OL situation, he'd be a fool to come back to be a target and risk injury. Hit the draft and start that pro clock. Next year is gonna be a rough one for the Vols I suspect.

Its not just about NIL. The running back position in the NFL has one of the shortest life spans of any position group, and players must be in the league for at least 3 recorded seasons to be eligible for the NFL pension. So typically, players (especially running backs) want to start that clock as soon as possible to ensure pension eligibility.

I was recently one of those that thought he would for sure be gone, but Mel Kiper disagrees and he's usually not that far off. If that's the case he probably wont be drafted, especially since late round Rbs are not valued very high in the NFL from a $$$ standpoint.

Spyre's NIL deal might be higher than his UDFA deal, even if it were 2-3 years. This could allow him to come back, but I am not 100% sure about how much NIL would offer either. Lots of factors there.

Im sure Heup and Co would have some input in that too. A huge Senior year could vault him up into the the upper rounds next year.

According to Mel Kiper Jr., the top 10 running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft are:
  • Ashton Jeanty: Boise State
  • Omarion Hampton: North Carolina
  • Kaleb Johnson: Iowa
  • Tahj Brooks: Texas Tech
  • Quinshon Judkins: Ohio State
  • Nicholas Singleton: Penn State
  • Le'Veon Moss: Texas A&M
  • Jonah Coleman: Washington
  • Jordan James: Oregon
  • TreVeyon Henderson: Ohio State

RBs need to leave as early as possible. The lifespan of a RB in the NFL is VERY short. They need to get to their second contract as fast as they can. For the vast majority of RBs, the second contract signing is the only time they will have the opportunity to really cash in. Bye Bye Sampson and great luck!

There’s nothing he could do next year that he hasn’t done this year. The guy could finish with 1500 yards and 25 touchdowns this year. If that doesn’t boost his stock, nothing will.

He is gone and no one should blame him for it. Our money would be better spent elsewhere than paying him enough to even make him consider returning.

RBs have a short lifespan in the NFL.

There’s nothing for him to gain by staying another year.
Unless he can earn as much money at Tennessee as he can in the NFL, I agree. Generally, backup running backs earn between $1M-$2M in the NFL. If he can work out a deal to earn that much at Tennessee in guaranteed money - maybe he stays. That being said, if I'm Tennessee I'd be tempted to apply that money to the OL and WRs. We're pretty deep at RB.

I wouldn't blame him for leaving either, especially if he has the opportunity. But if he is not projected to be drafted, and since there is no guaranteed if a second year contract, he could opt to stay and get the guaranteed NIL money. I would assume it would be 7 figures to stay if he chooses to do so. League minimum for UDFA is 750K, so it may make more sense to do that in the long run.

He could also have a very strong combine and maybe get drafted as a late rounder. Milton pretty much did just that.

Also putting in 2 seasons as a starter, showing durability and dependability could improve his draft stock.

He will get drafted. Truth be told, most of Mel’s projections right now are based on what his preseason projections were.

He is better off getting a year closer to a pension that could pay him for 30 or more years.

Why does he not have Sampson on this list at all? He is better than all of these guys.
