Seems to me they had to pass something....kinda had just a few days. Getting the budget in order is going to be a bear. There's only so much that can be cut easily, but, yeah...it is a start. To me, it's 4 billion we didn't have to borrow, pay interest on, and have hanging over our heads.

I agree, but the point is it is just like someone spending $100,000/year making a cut of about $100.

Exactly... these politicians realize that the populace is stupid and take advantage of that ignorance. They throw out the word "billion" and knows it will get an instant reaction from both sides of the aisle. "Billion" sounds like a big number... until you compare it to the actual budget. Really, you can make the case that $40 billion ain't nothing to really be cheering or whining about.

Government shutdown averted as House approves $4 billion in cuts - U.S. House of Representatives - Salon.com

So let me understand this. $4 billion is .1% of $4 trillion, right? And this is supposed to make me jump for joy?

Ohh, and don't come to me about, "well, at least it is a start..."

*****

This only counts for the remainder of last year. Only for 2 weeks. Not the full budget. That cut will be much deeper and the GOp will unveil it later.

There is a theory that they will only go in two week spans the rest of the year to draw this thing out and make Obama live this daily in the media.

That'd be cute.

I'm not saying it will happen but a very good speculator who seems to have the ear of the house GOP's budget leaders has stated that this is what needs to be done. Only offer two week extentions and hack away at the budget each time.

It's embarassing to be discussing cuts without discussing military, police, prisons, and a Simple, Transparent, and Progressive taxation plan. It's ridiculous to discuss cuts in this climate without supertaxes on speculation, bank bonuses, and corporation.

Medicare and Social Security ARE NOT insolvent. These are myths and propaganda.

Feel free to provide any non-utgibbs math answer as to why paying social security isn't going to bury the US in debt.

So $100 billion is supposed to be impressive? $100 billion is how much of the annual budget...

it was the promise they made when elected. If you weren't happy with the goal at that time you should have stated it then. Getting money out of Dems hands is like fighting Rosie O for the last scoop of mac and cheese at a buffet

Pretty smart to start cutting defense especially with the current climate in the Middle East.

I'd cut it. The massive increases of the past decade and serious pay hikes are unwarranted and just lead to more bloat. Somebody has to force tough decisions at the Pentagon, including paring the general staff there massively.

Can't have a simple plan that taxes only slightly over half if the population.

Please tell me more of you lunacy regarding corporations being exactly like citizens, hence the need to e taxed like citizens. Maybe you'll start with corporate tax rates.
