$4 billion out of a $3.83 trillion budget... whoopty doo

I'd cut it. The massive increases of the past decade and serious pay hikes are unwarranted and just lead to more bloat. Somebody has to force tough decisions at the Pentagon, including paring the general staff there massively.

There is definitely some fat that can be cut in the defense budget.

I would too. We could throw our entire budget at the the Middle East, and in ten years, not much would change. It will still be in a state of utter confusion....like it has always been. Do you think the average Iraqi citizen is going to be grateful to the U.S. for the time and money we have put into their country? If so, I have some beach front property in East TN for ya.

Can't have a simple plan that taxes only slightly over half if the population.

Why not?

Please tell me more of you lunacy regarding corporations being exactly like citizens, hence the need to e taxed like citizens. Maybe you'll start with corporate tax rates. I'm referring to the real rates of taxation. Not the "suggested" tax rate for corporations. Of course, an STP tax plan would make that academic full stop.

Corporations were protected under the 14th Amendment before women or blacks were. Fascinating. A refresher for those who need it:

Pretty smart to start cutting defense especially with the current climate in the Middle East.

We could cut it in half and still outspending our nearest rival by 50%. And, hellfire, I'm probably only talking about the "Defense" budget, since the "War" budget is offline. At some point, it just becomes plain, damn cowardice.

While I agree that we could "trim some of the fat" when it comes to defense spending, but we are still 8th down the list when it comes to the % of GDP spent on defense. Also if you cut our spending in half, we would be second on the list of defense spending behind China who roughly spends 380,000,000,000.

That is a totally meaningless statistic.

Tuvalu could jump to #1 if they bought a single F-35. Saudi Arabia is probably #1 or thereabouts on the list. Somehow, I don't see us removing our military presence in the MMLKA though....

I'd like to know where you got your Chinese figures from. US DoD has it at $150 billion in 2010. SIPRI had it the highest, I believe, of the major analyst firms at $140 billion. RAND has them lower though. China is certainly #2 in spending.

Senselessness. It almost assumes that there aren't people underlying to corporation and that they aren't tax on their individual shares of corporate earnings, resulting in double taxation. Remind me the individuals who pass on earnings to be taxed?
