4 Lady Vols earn SEC Awards

Excuse me, but literally NO ONE is saying they have a problem with Joni winning it because of her skin color. Logical and rational people are saying her achievements this year were far less superior than Gary Blair or even Kellie Harper. I'm happy for her. I think she's a great person, but let's be honest with ourselves if she was a white woman Gary Blair would've won it. Period. End of story.

when the argument for the reason she got becomes “it’s identity politics” or vs ages of a narrative... yes they are saying it’s because of her skin color and many of you seem ok with glossing over that fact. I’m not. And as long as these posts remain I’ll use my voice to call them out.

Would you be ok if the argument was reframed as Blair lost bc of his skin color? Not a trick question, and a good answer may be yes, better a white guy lose bc of skin color in an effort to bring about equality. But that's a hard thing for most of us, yes privileged white guys, to reconcile, even if its correct and necessary. Which is why I say again, actual constructive conversation around this, instead of invective on both sides, is badly needed.

Hey, maybe whoever the voters are simply thought Joni did a better job.

No... I wouldn’t. Which is exactly why I’ve also quoted posts in other threads basically saying he lost and any other whites person will lose awards based on their skin color.

I wouldn’t have had any issue with Gary, Dawn, Kellie, or Joni winning it(I would’ve had a bigger issue with Dawn tbh because they under achieved. Georgia hasn’t been in any conversation for anything in the last couple of years so for Joni to turn that program around(as has Kellie and I actually think either she or Joni deserves the award over Blair.. I can’t say Texas A&M overperformed. They’ve been this good consistently, people just watched the FLASH of Carter.)

I don’t like that her honor is being diminished BECAUSE Gary didn’t win, and the reason being because he’s a older white man and there’s some huge attack on that community 🙄. I’ve had so many conversations surrounding race so I’m open to conversation for sure but come with facts. It isn’t hard to see that she’s done a darn good job with that program.

I don't care what race a person is, if I disagree with the award given to them. We are not the same person!! He /she has her views,I have mine..Why would you lump me in that mess????
You put yourself in that mess! so own it!

"Identity politics" does not and never has just included race, so it's clear where your priorities lie, and it's not with intersectionality, for sure. Gary Blair is an old, white man. Joni Taylor is a young, black woman. Last I checked that's three criteria under the umbrella of identity politics, not one. "Identity" is a helluva lot more than someone's race.

I'm really impressed with what Joni has done at Georgia, and am glad the SEC has so many teams on the rise. Kellie, Neighbors, and even Coach Yo will be in this discussion next year, for sure.

Did anyone see the SEC Network special with all the black female coaches? Should black men be calling out gender discrimination for not having 1 black male in the SEC? And why does women's basketball have so few black men coaching? I am curious to why that is.
As for Joni winning COY, finishing 4th? GTFO. Sure Joni has been impressive and deserves recognition. But Blair should have won COY based on merit. And yet not one person can state why Joni should have won over Blair.

Grasping at straws at this point.

I'm a white man,please explain my privelage..so I know I have it!
Spoken like a white man. As a fellow white man, I have endeavored to educate myself on privilege, and it was enlightening. You should try it. All whites should.

I received a nice "thank you" email from Kellie today. She is a class act all the way. This program has blossomed before our eyes. I'm excited with the trend. There has been something that got in the way just as they started a roll. I'm hoping this tournament starts a peak for them that runs out in May.
