40% of Earmarks in Stimulus Plan are Sponsored by Republicans

if obama is giving 40% of the earmarks despite getting almost zero republican votes he is not a very bright man.

Different bill. This one is working through Congress right now and is not his at all (other than he's the current POTUS).

This is left over spending until the next budget period. Not sure if Rs are going to support it or not.

The irony is the furor among these clowns to punish Wall Street and banking executives for mis-management.

100% correct. Altruism... my ass! It makes me want to go write bad checks and see what happens to me.

Is there a website we can go to and see a list of earmarks our congressman has entered into each bill, and if he voted for it? If any of this garbage is a result of my congressman I want to write him and tell him what a piece of sh*t he is.

Obama Catches Grief for Spending Bill Earmark - The Sleuth

Throughout the appropriations process, however, as funding for other educational projects was tacked on to the original funding request, the set-aside bearing Obama's name and those of dozens of other lawmakers, did, indeed, unquestionably become an earmark. The earmark wound up including funds for specific tribal educational projects that Obama never requested.

More about the bill

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/26/us/politics/26spend.html

And one watchdog group said the bill provided nearly $8 billion for more than 8,500 pet projects favored by lawmakers, including $1.7 million for a honey bee laboratory in Weslaco, Tex.; $346,000 for research on apple fire blight in Michigan and New York; and $1.5 million for work on grapes and grape products, including wine.

Taxpayers for Common Sense, a watchdog group, counted more than 8,500 “Congressionally designated projects” in the bill and said the cost of these earmarks totaled $7.7 billion., up 3.4 percent from last year.

Representative Jerry Lewis of California, the senior Republican on the Appropriations Committee, said that to understand the magnitude of new federal spending, one must look at the money in the omnibus bill and the money for the same agencies in the economic stimulus law, which together total $680 billion. That sum is 80 percent higher than spending for those agencies last year, he said.

And the kicker

The new bill, a reflection of Democratic priorities, increases spending on domestic programs by an average of 8 percent in the current fiscal year, which began in October.

Funny, I don't remember inflation being 8%.

Kinda like when Pelosi stood up (one of 500 times to do this) to applaud the private jet line in President Obama's address to Congress. Ironically, a month before Pelosi wasn't happy with the small private jet that comes with the Speaker's job, she was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat jet with a bedroom that could get her back to California without stopping, carry her staff, family and friends.

All politicians, wake up and watch the f'ing spending. Your remarks apply to you just as much as the next person.

If Obama would just show me something here. Send it back and tell them to cut the crap out of it I'd respect him more. He comes off as a lapdog to Pelosi and the like and needs to show both sides he is "everyones" President.
