4th&1 from our own 10 in the 2nd qtr

I actually liked that one. I generally hate going for it early in the games, and I generally hate refusing to kick a field goal (which would have easily easily won it for Florida). But I felt like the odds of Florida scoring if you punt were pretty high and the odds of converting it were very high.

Tennessee wins by pure luck, really. The defense is good but you can't be so good that you just stop the opponent from scoring AT ALL in the red zone 5 times (or ever how many that was). That's not possible. You need skill AND luck AND opponent stupidity, all three.

It was desperate. But, It created a spark and changed momentum for a second. So I'll glad he did it. I just hope he doesn't make a habit of it.

Gutsy call? Desperate? Unnecessary?

Ultimately it didn't cost or gain us much but I was shocked. Glad it worked but not sure I liked it much at the time
After some thought on that play, I just cant even get my brain around it enough to say what I think.

I really think he felt he was about to lose control of the game at that point. Desperation is my guess.

Anybody notice that Moi was in there as a blocking back on that and 1 or 2 other short yardage runs?
I didn't notice that but will check it out. He's really a guy who earned a lot more time this season. Good to see

Absolutely terrible call that worked in our favor. If he doesn’t get the first there, coach is the laughing stock of every sports show and arm chair qb in the world. Our fans would have dragged him, the official game posts would have at least 2k more posts.

He’s probably the only coach that would go for it there even the analytics were like 99/1 against going for it.

He probably even told the team in film how dumb that call was but thanked them for bailing him out

let’s be real it was an emotional call that if CJH stopped to think about it more, he woulda punted it. I get why he did it and loved it at time, but I doubt you see many more of those lol

It's a frustrated coach making a poor decision. It worked and I get he was probably trying to send a message, but in that situation down 3, you just can't let your frustration get the best of your decision making.

Going for 4th and an inch is never desperate. It was a calculated risk. I personally liked it. At that point in the game we needed momentum. It also shows confidence in your offense to get an inch and in your defense to get a stop if you fail. Nico throwing the pick right afterwards is what made the decision look questionable. But if we went down and scored it would have been hailed.

Josh Huepel typically shows good judgement as a coach on when to go for it. I rarely find myself second guessing him.

I don’t think coach is good in making pressure decisions. It’s frustrating to watch us kick when inside the 50, we make too many bad choices with the time outs, questionable time management mistakes, etc

I think it was not a good Football 101 decision.
I think if we punt from our end zone UF would be in the red zone after 3 plays then our D is best in the red zone. so if we don't get it UF starts out in redzone not a whole lot of difference.
Why it worked IMO is UF was like me on their heels because they thought he was just gonna bark the signals hoping for an offsides and they weren't on go mode.
Considering no one thought they'd snap the ball helped tremendously but like most said very Ballsy.
Could have turned out like Bill Battle's fatal 4th down fail and then the House For Sale signs come out.

The call was absolutely ballsy, and made out of frustration and probably a bit of desperation at the time, but he was clearly trying to send a much needed wake-up call to a group that was floundering.

It was an awful call on the surface, but I actually liked it at the time because the team was in such dire need of a jolt, and it never occurred to me that they wouldn't pick up a couple of inches.

Given the stellar play of the defense, I'd like to see a return of CJH's aggressiveness on 4th downs beyond the 50-yd. line, as he's gotten very conservative in those situations. In play calling in general, we need a return to the swashbuckling 2022 style - we have WR's who can create separation deep and a QB whose improvising talents are being wasted in an ultra-conservative system.

Defense was on the ropes and the writing was on the wall that if we punt, Florida likely scores. We couldn’t afford a 3 & out. Normally I’d say it was stupid but given the circumstances I think it was a necessary risk.
If we don't make it then Florida is at the 10. I'd rather have punted and had them at the 50.

It was a water shed moment for the O line.
Go back and watch how they responded for the rest of the game. It’s almost like they were even more motivated to give what they had for a coach twitch that much trust in them.

Sending a message to the team. If you let these guys score on us, we are probably gonna lose and that will be the end of playoff talks. Get the 1st down or lose it all.
