Four of the signees were named Gatorade state players of the year:
ARKANSAS POY - SHEKINNA STRICKLEN
The senior forward led the Devil Dogs to a 29-3 record and their third straight Class 5A State Championship Game appearance, averaging 24.1 points, 14.2 rebounds, 5.1 blocks and 4.0 steals a game. The 6-foot-2 Stricklen matched a state finals record with a career-high 45 points in a 70-63 loss to Camden Fairview. Ranked the nation's No. 6 senior by RISE Magazine, Stricklen was selected for the McDonald's All-American Game and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game. She was the state's Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year in 2005-2006.
GEORGIA POY - ALICIA MANNING
The senior guard led the Eagles to a 16-8 record and the Class 5A Regional quarterfinals, averaging 18.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.6 steals, 4.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. The 6-foot-1 Manning is rated the nation's No. 13 senior by RISE Magazine and was selected to the 2008 McDonald's All-American Game roster. She was the 2007 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year and was one of 36 players chosen to play in this last summer's USA Basketball Youth Development Festival.
OKLAHOMA POY - ALYSSIA BREWER
The senior center led the Chieftains to a 27-2 record and the Class 6A state championship game, averaging 21.6 points, 15.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.1 blocks and 2.2 steals. In a 49-48 loss to Tulsa Union High in the title game, the 6-foot-3 Brewer, who has been invited to participate in the McDonald's All-American Game as well as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game, clicked for 22 points, 19 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and three steals.
TENNESSEE POY - GLORY JOHNSON
The state's returning Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Johnson led the Spartans to a 25-5 record and the Division II, Class 2A state-title game, averaging 19.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. The 6-foot-3 senior forward shot 66.3 percent from the field and was named Miss Basketball for a second straight season. The nation's No. 2 senior by RISE Magazine, Johnson has been named to the both McDonald's All-American Game and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game roster , and was a top performer at last summer's USA Basketball Youth Development Festival.
Glory is also a track and field standout with individual state titles last year in the long jump and 100 and 200 meter races.
