I'm not really sure how Fulmer was duped into making that decision. I don't have any evidence but it's pretty clear that he was played like a fine violin by bammer. They tried everything they could to derail Fulmer as a coach, even through the legal system, and failed. Mainly because they thought he was the one behind the getting axed by the NCAA (he probably was). Coupled with kicking their asses nearly every year.

Welp, they got him. Pruitt threw his hat in the ring, because he and where his loyalty lies had a plan. Sent a coach who wasn't even close to being qualified, whose agenda was to destroy UT program for many more years to come and get paid millions to do it. The goal was to suck so badly, be fired from UT without cause to receive even more milions and millions and return to Bama as an assistant.

The fortunate part for UT is Pruitt and bammers plan back fired when he got caught cheating. The unfortunate part for Fulmer is that it completely ruined his reputation and legacy at UT and at least bammer accomplished that part.

You'll likely just call me a conspiracy theorist. All you got to do is read the ever so sad Albert Means story and countless others.

Genuinely one of the most insane things I've seen on VN. That's impressive.

I will probably always view that period of time in UT history as the price of overzealous fan involvement.

How many coaches turned UT down after the Schiano fiasco until Pruitt, not counting Gruden? 9 or something like that? Nobody else wanted the job back then. The worst coaching search in the history of coaching searches.

And don't think it didn't effect Pruitt's ability to hire assistants, plus there was the damage to recruiting, especially that season. Pruitt is ruined after the bag of money incident but he had a tough battle to win. The same with Dooley given the timing of his hire. Cards were stacked against both.

I would add that, in retrospect, neither Dooley or Pruitt were head coach material. Maybe some day but not during their time with us. I guess somebody had to hire them to learn that the hard way.

The even more stunning part is that the other guy Fulmer would’ve hired was Mel Tucker. I’m not a Leach fan, but he was there. Kiffin would’ve walked here. Many others as well. Flame away if you want, but Fulmers pride overrules his mind. Fulmer wasn’t going to hire someone he didn’t like it wasn’t his style, which is dumb. You hire the best man for the job, and he wasn’t even considering those options.

Botch Jones was coaching one more year than he should have been given. He should send Dobbs Christmas cards and a cut of the ridiculous buyout that goofball had..

The most idiotic part was the school got fined because he was wearing it wrong.
Ha! UT actually got fined for Pruitt refusing to wear a covering. This picture followed the fine when Cornbread either acted out like a child or was just too stupid to figure it out. I think Sankey elected not to fine us further because having Pruitt as our coach was punishment enough. Fulmer trashed his own reputation with the Pruitt hire.

Pruitt couldn't coach his way out of a McDonald's bag. I will say this though, what he lacked between the ears he and his wife made up for with their hearts. When they told those recruits they would take care of them, they went all the way to do it. Even continuing to pay bills for a player's mother after his firing.

I didn't know they made condoms with ear holes.

Don't forget greed. Fulmer's pride and greed. He wanted control and he knew he could micro-manage Pruitt. It's not far fetched to think he was maneuvering for the HC job in the long term.

Bingo. Bottom line is that everyone talks about how he loves UT, but his entire career was marked by his many stubborn refusals to put the best interest of the program over his greed and pride. He knew good and well that he could have hired a better coach in 2017, but it wasn’t “his” type of guy or someone he could control. I can’t believe they let him parade around there as he pleases, like some kind of folk hero. He lacks no self awareness or he’d at least give it a few years.

Technically Butch went 4-6 in 2017 and Brady Hoke went 0-2. But I still blame Butch for the last 2 losses.
Brady Hoke also kicked our best player off team. Pruitt went and got him back which might have been one of the best things he did. He also gave Jeremy Banks one more chance which he might be our best player on Defense.
