6-6

I said that UT would win 6-8 reg season games if well coached. It was a sincere qualifier that many condemned me for. I did not see evidence of good coaching last fall and wanted to see it before predicting better results.

I believe UT IS a well-coached team. I believe they will win 6-8 reg season games. I began the season thinking Bama was an almost unwinnable game. While we really cannot reasonably expect UT to win all of the remaining games... I personally believe they are all "winnable" to include Bama.

I tried to tell you it wasn't the coaching. ;)

I still think it was at least in part. But I am now pretty well convinced it was a conscious choice to play for the future rather than a lack of competence.

Jones can never say he threw a season (and the senior season of so many guys) away... or "invested" it. But I think he did. I think he protected some guys like JRM, Maggitt, M Williams, M Jackson, etc while developing them. They probably could have helped last year but not without sacrificing their development.

Jones' statement about Wolf kind of confirms this for me. Wolf stated that he might could have played but Jones wanted to protect his career. He wasn't going to take a risk for the short term that would cost the player and program in the longer term.

All of us make decisions in discernible patterns. I am learning Jones' patterns... and getting better at predicting him.

I knew exactly what I was saying when I said it. I'm not stupid.

My point was that I don't bother with predictions this year. There are way too many unknowns. Therefore, at the end of the season, I can tell you what our record is.

:eek:k:

Ok sounds good. Make sure you let us all know what our record is when the season's over.....we'll be waiting.

this team is definitely capable of 6-6 / 7-5 and may be just shy of doing better...maintaining the intensity we've seen so far and continuing the steady improvements throughout the season, they will be in a position to win the remaining games. While I don't always understand some of the play calling on individual plays, I do not see questionable coaching at all. BFO....its a game...sometimes our guys execute just right and sometimes the other team does and that is where I see the difference coming this year due to experience levels.

I said 6-6 with a lower bowl game win. Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Mizzou are toss up games. I doubt we're better than 7-5 though. We're thin and an injury could devastate the season.

I've said since the beginning I thought we'd be 4-2 after the Chat game, with a win over UGA or UF. I think we also win the last 4 @USC, MIZZ, @Vandy, and KY.

8-4.

And Ole Miss isn't unbeatable.

This is what everyone was saying at the beginning of the year. This is where I am keeping it. however, depending on how we win this game, this could be the game that propels us to 7-5 or 8-4...any of you changing your preseason predictions yet?

10-2 and if no injuries we don't lose again .. just win out baby!

And btw.... you made a good call. :good!:

I just went where the numbers took me. It is exceedingly rare to find a coach with a 6 year history, in any league, of over-performing what talent would predict by an average of 3 games a year.

That doesn't mean that UT has arrived, or that the Vols won't have some struggles and growing pains, but it at least calms my nerves when I become downtrodden worrying if we have the right coach(es) in place.

This staff is doing all of the right things, and in time it will pay off in a big way, if we can just keep the lemmings from jumping off the cliff in the meantime.

You have a pattern of calling things as you see them. Very little, if any, rah rah or gloom and doom in your posts. I dont always agree with you. Sometimes what you pist irks me but i always appreciate your candor. I like that you are seeing the positives happening in this program.

UT has more quality depth than USCe or Mizzou. Every team in the SEC has thin spots except for Bama.

The teams that will have more success will avoid injuries in those groups and have coaches who can work around those issues.

UT has played and competed well with two of the 3 most talented teams on the schedule. Every game from here out is winnable... even Bama at home with some good breaks and few mistakes. But youth often produces mistakes.... so we'll just have to see how good THIS team is at correcting and avoiding mistakes.
